Were having sky q installed, but just wo dering if we will lose all our recordings on our sky + box?

Unfortunately yes - all recordings are stored on the Hard disk and can't be transferred.

You will be able to download any purchased recordings and some may be available in Catch Up or On demand to download on your new box
