Hardwire Sky Q

Hello,

just connected my sky q box using the Ethernet port. I assumed like most other kit this would mean the box would default to the wired connection but apparently not. So I reset my connection and it worked for a couple of minutes then flipped back to the Wi-Fi!
Ao I resorted to google and then tried disabling the Wi-Fi. This seemed to finally get it to stay on the Ethernet.
Then I thought I would test my mini as nd it's lost connection with the q box which I suppose makes sense as I disabled the Wi-Fi.

So the question is can I have my Q box wired and my mini on Wi-Fi?

Hi @Vic68

Yes you can but as you see you need the main Q box on for the mini to connect if on 3rd party broadband.

If you are on Sky Broadband you can connect the mini to the Q router by WiFi.

However with Sky Broadband there is no point in turning the box WiFi off

I don't have sky broadband.

Do you know how I can do it as as far as I can work out , you need the Wi-Fi off for the wired to work but you need the Wi-Fi on for the mini to work?

Hi @Vic68

You cannot turn off the main Q box WiFi if using a mini (by WiFi) when using non Sky Broadband.

Carry out a Network reset on the main Q box with the Ethernet connected.

Network Reset found in Q box Home - Settings - Setup - Network.
Highlight Status and then select Reset on the right hand side. Select connect wired to non Sky Router . Do not carry out any WPS and just wait for the box to connect. It may take a couple of minutes. If it does not connect there is an issue with the Ethernet connection.
This should then help the main box retain its Ethernet setting.

Unfortunately that's what I have done a few times and it keeps the wired connection for about 2 minutes then reverts to the Wi-Fi. The only was to stop this is th disable the Wi-Fi.

What makes you think it is reverting to WiFi @Vic68 ?

You can ignore the Network SSID shown in Network info as this just the Qmesh and not what Network the box is using.
