Sky Q massive downgrade.

Just swapped over to Sky Q, worst decision ever made.

The controller is just awful, spend my days pressing the channel up and down instead of the volume because its always upside down.

Feels the same both ways up, so annoying.

That said the interface is like going back to windows 98, too complicated and too many options.

Awful layouts and not user friendly.

Sky plus was so far ahead of this rubbish.

The remote only has little pips under the back of it at the "top", if that makes it easier to use in the dark

While Sky+ has the grace and elegance of Windows 3.1 ; )

Realistically, Q is now a mature (eight years old) product and isn't going to change: it's also probably the last satellite television platform.

That's all very nice if you can get fibre.

What about the rest?

Sky Q is as good as it gets and that interface whatever anyone says could have been done better by teenagers with a laptop.

@jahriver Not sure what Fibre has to do with Sky Q as the live channels are delivered by Satellite, only on demand needs a broadband connection.

You get used to it. Personally, I spend most of my time actually watching programmes that twiddling around in the menus 😉

The current official target is for 85% availability by 2025 and 'nationwide' by 2030, which coincides nicely with the expected end-of-life (positioning fuel depletion) of the three satellites in the Astra platform at 28.2E

Unless someone, and it's unlikely to be Sky/Comcast, funds the replacement of the orbiting hardware at around £100,000,000 per unit launched then the days of satellite television in the UK are distinctly numbered.

Sky is currently contracted with SES (the Astra owners) until the end of 2028.

They mean the end of satellite TV is going to be a problem for people without fibre. Of course, there's starlink, ironically delivered via satellite, and I have my doubts it could handle the kind of traffic needed for mass media unless they do some sort of multicast.

The intention would be that by the time satellite television isn't a thing in the UK (about the end of this decade seems likely) then broadband access should be good enough everywhere to provide streaming access.

Some very isolated locations may still struggle, of course, but television access isn't actually a fundamental right.
