Setting up sky wrong?

Hi guys

I had a skyQ box installed in our front room and an additional wireless one in a separate room which we actually have the tv in.

our tv just arrived and it's connected to the wifi but it's not picking up sky...sorry if this is a dumb question but is it not going to work if the main box with the cables isn't plugged into a tv as well?
Appreciate any help you can offer

Have you connected the minibox to your TV in the seperate room with an HDMI cable? It doesn't transfer the image and sound to your TV wirelessly, it receives content from the main Q box wirelessly.

Can I just check that you only have the one TV which is in the '2nd room' (with what we call a mini box) or is the TV that 'just arrived' for the same room as the Main box (the one with cables) ?

The main box does not specifically need a TV to work but it does need to be connected to a TV or monitor screen from time to time as some settings are only set on there and may need to see what is going on when there are problems.

This does seem to be a convoluted way to install but may be the only way if the Satellite cables could not reach the other room

You may also need to be aware that the mini cannot be used for UHD aka 4K - only HD

You ideally want the main Q box in the room with the TV.

But doesn't have to be. However, if you are not running a TV off both Q boxes then it's a waste of subscription charges...

The main Q box has to be connected to power and the satellite cables.

The mini box connects to the main box via it's own wireless network.

The TV's WiFi capability is zero to do with Sky. You connect the Sky box to your TV with a HDMI lead.

No...as the smaller box didn't have any cables...so wasn't sure if it would need one...I'll go get one and hopefully that'll fix it...thanks so much. K

The small box (A Sky Q minibox) should have come with an HDMI cable. You won't see or hear anything on your TV if it's not connected to it with one.

If the main Q box has a HDMI lead then you can use that one - but it's an 'unusual' setup potentially sacrificing UHD and you're paying for a multiroom sub you may not need...
