This is obviously an ongoing problem that SKY are reluctant to acknowledge. My two mini boxes are dropping out every 2/3 days even after being on standby overnight. Every other device in the house (several) works perfectly except my SKY boxes. I have BT full fibre broadband. Their engineer has been and checked everything, he says it is a SKY problem. Extremely frustrating having to reset all the time.

I installed SKY in Jan 2019. Is an upgrade required, or a new TV provider. What is even more frustrating, is I am severely deaf, and speaking on the phone is a problem for me. SKY give me no option.

So we switched to Sky Q a few months ago and things had been going great with it, but a few days ago we had a power cut and ever since all three of our Sky Q boxes (main and 2 mini boxes) drop internet connection after about 20 minutes. It's getting infuriating, can't watch anything on streaming without having to reset the network connection every 20 minutes.

I've already tried resetting the network connection, it shows up fine and I can start watching from a streaming service and then bam it drops out and I have to either unplug the box and plug it back in or go to settings and reset the network connection to get it back. Then 20 minutes later it drops again.

I haven't changed anything with our home network (broadband from Virgin but home wifi is TP link mesh network), all other wifi devices have stable connection, even devices placed next to the Sky Q devices. So I don't know why this has suddenly started happening but it's making the Sky Q boxes useless for streaming.

Generally, Q won't play nicely with a mesh network unless connected to the nodes via Ethernet.

Your Q boxes won't be connecting using your network, by default, anyway. It creates its own 5GHz ch 36 network to communicate.

It's possible this is clashing with the TP link. The main Q box will only connect via 2.4GHz too - so ensure any channel steering is disabled.

The thing is though, it's been working since it was installed without issue, it only started having a problem after the power cut we had a few days ago.
Also, the mini boxes can still access the main Q box and watch recordings or live TV, it's just the internet connection that's suddenly causing issues. All boxes keep dropping it and I don't know why when nothing has changed in the network.

So I didn't want to jinx it by reporting back too soon, but I seem to have gotten it stable again.

It hadn't ocurred to me to check until your post but my wifi router had reverted back to auto channel selection after the power cut and had indeed decided to use the same channel on both the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz as the Sky Q box uses for it's own inter box wifi.

I switched the router to use different channels again and the Sky Q has been pretty stable again since. So fingers crossed it continues. Thanks for the tip.
