Considering switching to sky stream from skyq

Hi guys

I was just wondering what peoples thoughts were on switching from skyq to sky stream. I have virgin 1 gig broadband so would stick with that. My bill has gone up and trying to find how to discuss it with someone is a monumental task as I don't see anywhere to speak to someone other than the community. Hence why I started looking at what package options there are.

Has anyone made the switch? I've heard the networking on sky stream is more reliable than the sky q boxes but not heard much else

I Suspect the biggest thing to to consider is no recording facilities in Stream.

I don't have SKY Stream so can't give any advice from that perspective.

For me the lack of specific recordings & use of Playlists puts me off - I often keep individual recordings - something which you can't do with playlists (you tag the whole series not individual episodes)

Broadband wise for the main room it may not be much different to SKY Q but for non SKY broadban users it may or may not be better - SKY Q minis use their own wifi and not your home wifi

Clearly as eveything is streamed you do need a good speed

Personally I am also not fond of the use of all the individual players for catch up etc

There are many other such discussions so if you search the both this group & the SKY Glass/Stream groups you will find lots of information & views

As you may gather I don't Stream is for me but it suits a lot of people so do make your mind up.

Yeh I think looking it is the only thing different not having recordings that would throw me off. Though I have a feeling I'd get used to it

By all means consider it, but you have to monumentaly foolish to actually do it.

Sky Q is a billion times better

whilst no being perfect

it's the best legal TV option around

@MatChapmanI have recently changed to "stream" from "Q" and although I like it and will not change back it does seem like a beta version as there are several bugs, some Sky are working on.

To me the real problem with not having recordings is the delay before they show and can be watched in the "Play List" sometimes they don't. Also if you add a film where the licence only allows it to be shown for one showing it will never be available in your play list.

Finally and this is for me the most important, if you add a film where there is a news break etc in the middle the 2nd part is not available and you can't select the second part as you could with Sky.

Although I have stated it is not for me, I genuinely believe that many find it very suitable for them.

Probably no products are suitable for everyone & some will be more suitable to some people & others for other people. Everyone will have their own reasons for choosing one over another

There is no 'networking' on Sky Stream. If you have multiple pucks they operate entirely independently and therefore require fast and stable broadband in every room you intend to have them. The pucks do not talk to each other - there is no master/slave system like there is with Q and Q mini boxes. There is no Sky Stream mesh created by a master puck.

That's at a server level, not wirelessly between the pucks. As long as the pucks are connected to broadband (which they need to be to be of any use whatsoever) they will sync playlist information.
