Sky q and freesat on same tv

Is it possible to get freesat and sky q plugged in on the same tv? If so, what do I need to achieve this? Testing concept of 'potentially' moving to the sky stream service or now tv but would like to still be able to record. Thinking I could run freesat with a recording device to save the terrestrial programmes we want to record and not rely on streaming.

A standard Q LNB (the 'horn' on the dish) only has a single pair of cable connections, both of which are used by the main Q box. This means you'd need to have that replaced (with a model compatible with both Q and Freesat), and additional cabling run down for a Freesat receiver/recorder to use.

Technically it is feasible but you need what is called a Hybrid LNB that has outputs for SKY Q & Freesat.

If you already have SKY Q you would need to get the LNB changed over by an independent installer (& as @TimmyBGood mentions the extra cable required)

Do you really need freesat rather than just Freeview ?

I have another tv in another room using freesat so presumably the cable has been changed at some point. Does this alter how to set up?

If you currently have Freesat working in another room as well as SKY Q , then you will have ahybrid LNB

It would then depend on how connections are in use & your cabling

no SKY Q and Freesat operate differently.

If you already have freesat in your other room You might have a spare connection on the LNB (the electronic bit on the dish) to run a cable to your TV

It is possible, but not ideal, to split a freesat connection BUT only one connection must supply the power via the cable & the split connection can only watch whatever 'band' the one supplying the power is set to (Freesat uses 2 separate voltages for H/V polarisations and a tone to switch high/low band of frequencies) - so not really very practical

@Kel+MitchI splitter may well not work as the TV needs to supply the correct voltage to the LNB in the dish for it to work, also it could attenuate the signal so it is not strong enough for both TVs.

Depending on how many leads you have to the TV for freesat, most hybrid LNBs will have 2 outputs for "Freesat" so you can run 2 TVs from the LNB with an additional cable however if you have a freesat box and want to record it may need 2 leads. You may have a Hybrid LNB which has 4 outputs for freesat so you could run 2 freesat devices that want 2 feeds.
