what is socket for?

Hi,

I have just moved house and am setting up my sky Q box and TV there is a wall anttenna socket and also a HDMI wall socket what would I use the HDMI socket for?

Hard to know. Is there another HDMI wall socket elsewhere in your new house? They might be linked.

Is there any evidence of a similar socket in a location where a wall-mounted television could go?

For UHD it would have to be within three metres cable run.

yes there is the same wall socket in a bedroom next door.

Logic would tell me that the socket is to connect a hdmi soucrce into one end and hdmi out on the other end in the other room

Logic tells me that if it was a new build either there will be no wires connected to it or the electrician will not have connected it correctly. I have never come across HDMI sockets like that but often Ethernet ones.

All you can do is to try it as though it was an extension lead and see if it will work.

@terry004 Did you arrange a move with Sky? If not, make sure you inform them as your obliged to inform them in the T&Cs.

Hi Mark they are the same as what I am talking a out confusing to know what it is for. Do you think you plug your TV into it.. ot to tecky so forgive me.

Yes it's just a way of neatly carrying HDMI signals between rooms. Source at one end, TV at the other. Assuming it's been wired up behind the wall.

Source device (such as Sky Q box) plugged into the socket in one room, television plugged into the socket in the other room. Assuming there's actually HDMI cabling hidden in the wall between the two sockets, audio/video travels over it.

A housebuilder might install such a system where there's also built-in aerial or satellite dish cabling.

In theory this also means that (using a cheap HDMI splitter) you can have a television in each room showing synchronised content.
