The iPlayer app on sky q doesn't have a download function. Is it a different version from the mobile app which has this function

The apps on SKY Q are, to my knowledge, all stream only

SKy Q has a separate section for downloads - Catch up & On demand - although this will not be all content available via iPlayer (& other apps)

The download functionality on mobile is more for taking the content on the road / plane where you may not have a good broadband signal for example.

On Q the device is always on your broadband so nothing to be gained by downloading content inside the iPlayer app say.
