Help please to get the remote control feature working from the android skygo app

As per title,can anyone point me in the right direction to get the remote working on the android app as ive never had it working before.

My sky q box and phone are on the same network,ive rebooted the box (many times,especially after last nights outages),reinstalled the app but still when i click the remote control icon it searches for boxes then just gives the error messages No Boxes Found An error occurred and we were unable to find a sky q box.Tap below to search again.

I can send a request to download programs to my box from the skygo app so the app is definitely able to communicate with the box,but the remote feature has never worked.

Anyone got any ideas to help,thanks

I believe the remote control only works on ios (apple product).
Could be wrong tho. Hope this helps.

Oh is that right? I didnt know that so thanks that would explain it

Wonder why the option is there on the android app if it dont work?

Does anyone form sky know this or can confirm this and what is the point in putting it in the android app if its for apple only?

@mc321 I can confirm the most recent version of the Sky Go app on android does have a working remote as I use it regulary so @Rich+Gee comment is incorrect it was correct up until the most recent version was release

as to why its not working for you i have no idea its a strange one

@Laing1Thanks for confirming this.The version of the skygo app i have is 25.1.1

Is this the version that you are using?Ive no clue how to get it to work as i have reset the box many times,reinstalled the app many times and as mentioned i can send download requests to the box so it communicates with the phone,but the remote feature will not find the box for some reason.

That is the latest production version of the app.

Would suggest reporting your issue to the Sky Go feedback team.

You will find a feedback link under the settings gear icon in the Android Sky Go app.

Be sure on the feedback to leave contact information as it asks, so the team can contact you.

@lettice I did as you suggested and it was a complete waste of time.

They obviously didnt even read the email because the reply i got was to check my internet connection that it is stable as streaming requires a reliable network (the problem has nothing to do with streaming,its the remote that does not work),they told me to update the skygo app (which if they had read the email they would have seen that it tells them the version number i am using and that its the latest version of the app), and also told me to clear my cache and cookies if i am using a web browser as it can help improve performance (which has absolutely diddly squat to do with the skygo app on my phone and the remote control feature not working)

So it was just a generic robot **bleep** reply im afraid

It gets better.

After i replied telling them they already had the info they were requesting from my initial email and my actual problem with the remote and nothing to do with the browser or anything else,they have replied again saying they understand i have already shared the error message and app version and then in the next sentence of their reply.......they have asked for the error message i am getting 🤣🤣 you know the one that they just acknowledged i had given them in the previous sentence of the same email.

Who on earth is on the end of these feedback emails? Is it just robots or people that dont give 2 hoots and blatantly dont read whats in front of them or what they are actually typing and sending to customers.

I give up.If they sort the issue in the fututre then all good,if not then no big deal.

Yes same problem for me -

Android = "No boxes found".

iOS works fine - iPhone and iPad

All devices on the same wi-fi network.

Strange.I wonder what the difference is between those that can use it with android and those that cant.

Wonder if its the box or the android device itself that the app does not like

.I have tried with 2 samsung phones and it wont work with either.I will try to borrow a tablet or diffferent brand of phone from a family member and try with that and see if it works then.

I just tried on a different brand tablet and still the same message and not working

So no clue as to how some people have it working

@Laing1 Can you tell us what device you have it working on please to maybe help narrow it down,thanks

Im guessing it could be the box (older sky q box) that is the problem

I've tried with Sky box connected with Ethernet cable and with wifi to the same wi-fi network as my phone and neither work. Also tried using my wife's OnePlus 8T with a fresh install of Sky Go. Rebooted sky box also. No success!

Do you know which sky q box you have?

I believe mine is an older 1tb box so maybe its only the newer ones (after that version) that it is working with

Is a SKY multiroom subscription needed for the remote function to work?

I have the SkyGo App version 25.1.1 on an Android 14, One UI version 6.1 mobile phone
I can use the SkyGo App to record programs on my SkyQ box
I cannot download programs recorded on my SkyQ box to my SkyGo App
I cannot use the remote function on the SkyGo App, "No Boxes Found"

I suspect that becuase I don't have a multioroom subscription there are no uPnP services running on my SkyQ box

I installed an App called "UPnP Tool for Developer" on my mobile phone and when I used it to search for network services
it found services running on all my other network devices but none running on my SkyQ box

I don't have a multi room subscription but the sky go remote works on iOS but not on Android.
