Sky Go Latest version crashes on advert

sky go updated to latest version. when i selected movie and click on one to watch it crashes on advert.

I have uninstalled, reinstalled, restarted computer.

I had no issues before update

i have win 11 version 24H2 ver 26100-2161 the latest i believe on my desktop. When you try to stream a tv program and the screen changes to advert on the bottom of the screen right the skip advert freezes on 35 secs instead of counting down and after a while sky go crashes.

I have a laptop on ver 23H2 and this works fine counting down the seconds and playing the advert . i have the latest version of sky go 24.2.3.0 on both. seems there might be an issue with the latest windows update wonder if anyone else has noticed this issue.

right click on window bottom left select settings then system then on bottom right (you will have to scroll down) click on about in windows specs you will see version and OS build. to date sky are not aware of an issue. Is anyone else having this problem if not are you not the latest version of windows?

This is the exact issue. I am on Win11 fresh install latest build.

The advert appears and the seconds dont move, the program eventually freezes, and sky go has crashed.

I have to click on the red X repeatedly or CTRL+ALT+DEL the program.

After speaking with sky i thought i would try something. Rebooting the router didnt work but when i turned on my Avira vpn sky go worked. only difference is my ip address had changed so it seems the sky server doesnt like my ip address or there is something in the firewall of the router blocking the software. Also i found if you download the tv program first this also got over the problem of the adverts freezing.

I have given it a try with my VPN, and it sort of helps, except everything is now not available and having to look, download and then start my VPN is just a pain.

People that upgraded from Win10 to Win11 seem to have no issues, but fresh win11 installs do. This does seem to be an app issue that needs to be addressed.

make sure your vpn is set to a UK site otherwise you will get problems

sky have taken this on board and are looking at it there is no timeframe for a cure but they are hopeing to fix it in a later upgrade to their app.

I imagine this isn't affecting huge numbers or there would be more noise/action. Should we be sharing our hardware etc setups to try to spot some commonalities? We have just bought a new Dell inspiron AMD Ryzen with Radeon graphics. The add coundown freezes Sky go immediately. I've tried the Beta version of Sky Go - no change. Turned off the Windows firewall, tried Administrator mode, given Sky Go lots of permissions - we can't watch sky at all on this laptop once an advert kicks in.

A FIX OF SORTS:- Following the logic of the VPN solution, I've now got Sky Go to work in a slightly compromised way by going to Settings->Privacy and security->Location and turning off the 4 device location options. Programmes play without adds and without programme timings, ffw or rw or the Sky volume switch. I'm doing this in the Beta App. I will post again when I switch back to the current finalised App version. As another contributor said, downloading the programmes is a smoother ride.

Sorry latest update didnt fix it but this did. I was trying a virtual machine software from virtualbox.org and had not uninstalled it when i tried to use sky go. It made sky go work and the next day i uninstalled it only to find sky go didnt work anymore. the moral of the story. There is something installed in virtualbox the makes sky go work. I have reinstalled a AMD64 bit version of virtualbox again and sky go now works fine. Please let me know if this works for you.Obviously there is something missing in the latest version of 24h2 that sky go need and virtualbox must have installed it if i get a positive response i will inform sky.

Here's to the genius and generous sharing of jrk8028! Thank you. Installing virtualbox seems to have solved all my issues (AMD Ryzen 64bit) - just in time for Tottenham's historic win at Anfield tonight 😁. For the less technical like me, the virtualbox installation is very quick, just download and click quickly through the default install, ignoring the poorly worded warnings and requirements. I did not need to open or use virtualbox for it to help Sky go work.

My previous fix, using Beta sky Go with location services turned off, stopped working (Sky Go started crashing immediately on startup - as it has often on various devices over the years). I have left location services off - not sure if this is needed for the virtualbox fix to work.

there was a major outage on sky yesterday all updatres failing and crashing sky go, the original issue is back where it freezes on advert .My hardware is AMD ryzen 7 cpu. If you liked my cure please hit the like button
