I use a VPN ,when I watch sky go on my phone with my Sky mobile sim ,it seems to use my data,is this because of the VPN?

I would guess so as the app needs to know you are in the UK for it to work without charging you for the data. So if you are in the UK then there is no need to use the VPN when using Sky Go.

It's also because Sky can only identify the network traffic as being Sky Go because they can see it's going to their servers. When you use a VPN, the traffic's destination appears to be to the VPN server, not Sky Go's
