As @SKY1992bf indicates, TNT secured long term rights to both the French and Australian Open tournaments. Sky Sports has the US Open, and Wimbledon remains on the BBC.

Note that although TNT Sports can be accessed through the HBO Max app, the HBO Max tier bundled 'free' with most Sky subscriptions doesn't include TNT Sports content (apart from the current tro of European football finals as an exception)

I suppose they might give access if a British player made it through to the final round ; )

I've paid for SkY Sport and now fuming that it's not showing the French Open ..

@Sandra+hibe Roland Garros was always on Eurosport (a non Sky Channel) it is not on TNT who closed Europsort in the UK.

Did you ask Sky about it before signing up? Or did you just assume all tennins would be on Sky?

Unless Sky have specifically advertised Roland Garros it's not misleading.

As a pensioner and paying overv£100 per month I find it terrible that I would have to pay for TNT to watch one of the biggest sports events the French Open. Being a big tennis fan I am very disappointed

Regrettably , the modern world of Sports does mean that few of them are all in on place on TV meaning that fans either have to miss out on some tournaments etc. or pay, often high prices, to watch.

The bidding costs for TV coverage for many Sports are eye watering & needless to say those paying for it want to recoup their costs and this can mean high subscriptions.

It is unfortunate that TNT the owners to the French Open rights felt last year that they could not sustain Eurosport in the UK , where it used to be broadcast in the UK and moved all their sport to their premium TNT susbscription.

Shockingly the Fédération Française de Tennis may not have had your pension status directly in mind when they were accepting the Warner Bros Discovery Ltd proposal for another extension to a long-term multi-year rights deal.

As @nigea99 indicates, it's the end of Eurosport broadcast to the UK last year which has had the biggest impact on availability here: that's also a WBD decision and presumably intended to gain a better return on the billions they've invested in sports content.

Unfortunately, I think that, with high costs of subscriptions to Sports, it is easy to assume that all tournaments / matches etc. are included.

This applies to those signing up to other packages such as TNT Sports (which is needed for Roland Garros) & not just SKy Sports

It is not limited to Tennis and Football, in particular, is spread amongst several broadcasters, so it does, regrettably, mean that fans of particular sports often need to subscribe to multiple (often not just 2) packages to be able to watch all content for that sport

It is probably more down to the Sports bodies selling the rights,looking to maximise their income that results in such splits

I'm afraid these days it's up to the customer to research which services they want before signing up.

Sky is no longer the 'one stop shop' to get everything. Streamers are keeping hold of their own content, therefore requiring the customer to sign up to more services than ever. Sky are actually doing well by having bundle deals already with Netflix, Disney+, Paramount+ and HBO Max.

Sport, on the other hand is a different kettle of fish and a huge money-spinner... from a business point of view you can see why TNT Sport wants to keep its own events from Sky...

You do understand that Sky doesn't actually own the tournaments?

The 'greed', if any, is on the part of the organisers (typically a national federation): I suspect they would argue that it's how they can offer modern prize money though.

Of course, Sky could increase its Sports subscription price to a high enough level that it can always outbid its competitors....

..yes it sux..it's a cop-out to say oh, TNT has the rights to French Open..the job of sky is to use its market position to Get the rights to major events. Sky does the same with UEFA..suddenly you see that, for eg, Canal + has the rights to top matches...i.e they Cherry pick events off Sky .. That's why we pay top subscription fees to Sky for them to use their market position to leverage stuff!!

Totally agree but it will come back to haunt them.Subscribers can see through their ploy and won't continue to be cash cows.I for one will consider cancelling after my present contract finishes..

Ireland - I have the Sports Extra package which gives me TNT. But they only show 1 or 2 Roland Garros matches at a time, the rest of the time it's just a panel discussing the matches. The rest of the matches are on HBO Max, but HBO Max in Ireland does not have sports. It's a messy arrangement.

Canal+ and Sky operate in separate markets. Rights Canal+ get has nothing to do with Sky. (Plus googling suggest canal+ has no rights to French open)

The French Open has sold the pan european rights (with exception to france) for their competition to WBD . Same with the US,.

Harder for sky as they only operate in a couple of market

Will be interesting if they remove Germany and Austria option on Sky Group press website as it only officially it becomes part of RTL on Monday, as it can still accessed from the UK.

HBO Max adds very little value to Sky imo there isnt much new and exclusive content unless you are into Documentaries or "Max Originals"

Some of will see it as regression old content with excessive unskippable ads unless you pay more.

Less said about Paramount+ the better which is only included with ads in a overpriced Sky Cinema subscription anyway
