Sky Q uses a satellite dish.

Sky Glass & Sky Stream is delivered over the internet.

Sky does not broadcast from masts to aerials other than Sky Mix, Sky Arts and Sky News in some Freeview areas.

@Hardy4 I understand Sky are no longer taking new customers for SkyQ as it is being phased out over the next few years. Sky Glass and Sky Stream are exactly the same except Sky Glass comes with its own special tv, Sky Stream plugs into your existing tv. Both are supplied with a small puck which is connected to your internet. Let us know if you need any more information.

Sky Q is still available to order but only by calling Sky. It has a lifespan of another 4 years (ish).

@Daniel0210 Thanks for the clarification. @Hardy4 To be clear SkyQ does not connect to the internet but requires a satellite dish fitted to the outside of your home which is supplied by Sky.

@Hardy4 for clarification whilst linear channels are broadcasted over satellite some services do require broadband connectivity when using Sky Q

such an example is the bonus sky sports streams that are not broadcast on the main sky sports channels

Also worth mentioning that if you only want to watch Sky channels then you may not need the full Sky Q/Stream/Glass service.

You can get the same live Sky channels and Sky on demand content from the NOW TV app which may already be installed on your smart TV or streaming device. You can subscribe on a month by month basis or for longer 6 or 12 month terms at a discount.

Others have already said it but that really does needs underlining: that's completely false.

SkyQ is fully available for new installs, it is only its sale online that has been removed. You can order it over the phone, or in person in Sky's shops. My install was only 3 months ago. It also has many advantages over the internet-only streaming options. Not least of which is local recordings. If you regularly record programmes to watch later, want to skip through adverts without having to pay an extra charge for the "privilege", prefer building your own library of content that won’t disappear at a broadcaster’s discretion, or simply value having TV that works when your internet goes down, then losing recording functionality represents a significant downgrade.
