Sky nfl coverage...

Folks, anyone got any news yet on skys NFL coverage from 2025, I'm hearing DAZN have got the sole rights to broadcast the NFL games in the UK so does that mean SKY will lose all it's coverage , that would be a disaster for the game here in the UK ... fingers crossed that the rumours are wrong 🤞

At this point, nobody outside of the NFL and any negotiating parties are aware of what the 2025 coverage will look like. At this point, Sky's exclusive games are set to expire at the end of this season but rights deals can tend to be agreed and announced with as little as a few days before an event starts. Enjoy the current season before wondering what's happening with the next one.

The only certainty is that DAZN will offer what it offers currently as that is locked down for the long term.

I really hope sky can get some sort of deal to keep showing nfl in the uk,as DANZ is a awful channel. Leaving sky will hurt the nfl in the uk as people can't afford to keep adding new channels all the time. I for one have been watching nfl since the 80's but the way things look this season may be my last and I know others who feel the same.

I have to say, I'll be glad if Sky lose the NFL contract. I moved from watching NFL on Sky to watching it on game pass and it is way better on game pass. I can pick what game I want to watch and not which Sky pick. Also if Sky lose the rights, their will be no blacked out games. Also you can get game pass on Prime now.

It's just more money to pay out that people don't have right now,I have already had to stop watching the nhl because I had to tighten up my finances and now it looks like the nfl will be going the same way. I get that things like game pass are a good idea but not everyone has the money to keep paying out. It's all getting abit stupid now having to pay to watch anything decent.

I agree, like you I use to watch F1 but stopped once Sky got nearly all the coverage. For me the only sport I watch is NFL, so game pass i perfect for me. I just hate Sky makes them black out games, it dosn't happen in the rest of europe.

A bit difficult to see any alternative now most mainstream sports are terminally addicted to their television rights revenue stream. Back in the good old days when sport was free to air on television the participants themselves were generally very poorly paid (or were genuine amateurs)

Sky doesn't have NFL rights in the handful of continental European countries in which it's a media platform.

I for one would be pleased if Sky lost the rights to blackout NFL games, I have been a redskins fan for over 30 years and could only watch them through game pass, now they are having a good season 3 out of 9 games have been blacked out thanks to Skys coverage. About time I was able to watch what I paid for and not be at the mercy of Sky's whims

I've had the same as a Bengals fan, all the best Bengals games at 6pm kickoff have been shown on Sky. Bengals v Ravens and Bengals v Eagles. I wouldn't mind if Sky didn't insist on game blackouts.

SportsProMedia have an article from October quoting the NFL UK General Manager on future outlook (linking article can be funny here so won't link. Googling "nfl rights 2025 uk" brought it up.

The UK NFL GM said:

Honestly, everything is being looked at the moment as we go into that process of trying to identify the right partnerships, so [Sky’s exclusive broadcasts] would certainly be part of that mix.
“Sky has been a fantastic partner and we have a really good relationship with them. They have a very engaged sports audience that we want to be in front of. So they’re a crucial part of the [broadcast] mix now and we hope they might be going forward.
“But we need to look at the whole package, rather than just piece by piece, and understand where the best place is for the NFL to reach the audience at the scale we want to.”

The big thing from the article is to get the right mix of revenue and reach

That's an interesting quote as reach and revenue never go together 😄.

If sports want to get the best reach they need to be on free-to-air channels or streaming platforms however that never maximises their broadcasting revenue. I think this is why we typically now see rights split between a free broadbaster and a paid broadcasters, which may encourage some growth from casual viewers but if they then split rights over multiple pay broadcasters then the hardcore fans are the ones who suffer by having to sign up to multiple services.

If I all goes to another pay broadcaster,I won't be watching anymore and that would be gutting as I have been watching the nfl since it first came to channel 4 in the 1980's and have supported the same team since then. But I can't afford to pay for anymore channels.

Totally agree, the reason the NFL has become so popular is because of SKY , just look at how fast the games sell out at Wembley, and as a comparison how many people now watch Moto GP now it's on TNT compared to when it was on BBC .... bad move by the NFL if they don't sign a deal with SKY !!

The NFL was very popular in the 80's well before SKY started showing it, SKY just jumped on the bandwagon. That's like saying SKY made F1 more popular now, just because they show it. SKY is a dieing format on how people view content now, people stream what they want now. I went to NFL games at the old Wembley and they sold out quick to, thats nothing new.

I don't think the NFL is as popular on SKY as you think, because why did they stop the NFL channel on SKY sports? I guess it wasn't because it was so popular?

Anyway SKY upset me last night by showing the Bengals game 😄

Yes and No.

Whilst is true that the current young generation of people below 30 do tend to stream all their viewing, unfortunately that isn't the case for the entire populiation which is typically the reason why sports broadcasting rights are no longer going to 1 provider with broadcasting packages split between different broadcasters ( and typically different platforms, some traditional broadcasters and some stream only like DAZN or Amazon).

The nfl channel tend to be for 6 months of the nfl season from September to February, currently 408 branded as such
