2K / 4K Picture Quality

Just want to konw why sky doe's not say 2K / 4K on the picture settings,

SD = 720p ( rename from 720p to saying SD instead )

HD = 1080p ( rename from 1080p to saying HD instead )

2K = 1440p ( not avaliable on Sky but should be a option )

4K = 2160p ( rename on box from 2160p to saying 4K instead )

8K = 4320p ( not being used at the moment as it is to expensive to use )

these changes will make it so more easier to use these settings.

Hi @CIH1986 I can't remember the last time I changed my resolution. Set it to UHD years ago. Why do think it would be easier? If it was changed it wouldn't match the EPG so making it more difficult to use.

720P is actually considered to be HD, being a resolution of 1280 x 720.

1080P is known as Full HD, being 1920 x 1080.

SD is actually 480P, being a resolution of 720 x 480.

720p is HD.

There is a 576i which is SD and has been used in UK.

In fact 720p will often look beter than 1080i for sports or fast moving video.

Sky use 1080i for HD.

True 4K is actually 4096x2160; wheras UHD is the broadcast standard which is 3840x2160p.

576i or 576p is SD in the UK IIRC 480i and 480p is NTSC ie USA etc...

And 576i is really 625 lines in the UK standard. I'm old enough to have experienced broadcast 405 lines B&W

How many people remember when the BBC went HD with 240 and 405 lines? Had been 30 lines before then.

Technically, "UHD" can be used for any resolution above HD.
To expand on the resolutions you said:

SD (PAL) - 720x480
SD (PAL) - 720x576

HD / 720p - 1280x720
Full HD/1080p - 1920x1080
QHD/1440p - 2560x1440
4K UHD - 3840x2160
8K UHD - 7680x4320

So, to answer your question:
On Sky:
Channels in "SD" are using 720x480 or 720x576
Channels labelled "HD" are uaing 1280×720 or 1920×1080
Channels labelled "UHD" is actually 4K UHD which is 3840×2160

Sky does not use QHD or 8K (for now)

Absolutely. The accepted industry specification states that Full HD + enhancement(s) is considered to be UHD.

Therefore, Full HD + HDR would be considered UHD from a technical standpoint.
