So I have a similar question but I was looking to get off Sky and into Virgin Media. I have made the broad band move because Sky cannot improve my BB at this time or any time in the next year or two.. I am stuck with just 35mb. Virgin have just installed FullFibre in my street straight to the router so am now on a 1gig BB line.

Sky were still refusing to offer me a competitive deal (after 3 and a half years) to remain with them and I was paying £192 for everything and that was set to rise to approx £212 from April so thats why I left the BB to start with. £40 @ 35meg against £29.99 @ 1gig for 18mths was no competition. I am now looking at Sky Glass because all of a sudden they now appear to want to offer me a more competitive package using that instead but I dont want to get into having something that doesnt fullfil my needs. Heres the thing, I can only get the full streaming service with Virgin. No Tivo or 365 box so no hard drive. Heres an example of what I want to do .... I want to watch Monday Football on Sky Sports but I am on 2-10 shift so will miss it. On Virgin I will not be able to add it to a watchlist as its just not available (license issue maybe?) and they dont currently have a cloud. Sky on the other hand offer a cloud based storage but does it extend to what I want it to do. I have full sports package TNT, Sky, all HD and UHD and very often I am in work when some events are on. I want to "record" it and watch it when I get home later that evening. Virgin have the boxed sets, watch list, catch up etc but not for the sports etc. So can Sky do this and will I lose much in the way of capability if I change to Sky Glass. Thank you in advance for any information.

You create bookmarks in a playlist by pressing the red + button on the remote. This will then give you access to play back programmes on demand either direct from Sky's servers as a cloud recording or on demand file, or from a third party app (subscription permitting for certain content.)

Firstly, with that remote button you mention, you have either Sky Stream or Sky Glass.

Which one do you have?

Sky Glass and Sky Stream does not record to a hard drive, like traditional recording, but provides a 'playlist' link to the programme, or series on live TV, On demand or apps.

Have a read of how the playlist works here;

Save all your favourite shows to your Playlist, which brings together in one place all the programmes you’ve added from the TV guide, on demand and apps. No need to remember to record. Watch shows from your Playlist as soon as they are available to catch up.

https://www.sky.com/help/home/sky-tv/sky-tv-stream/using-sky-stream/using-sky-glass-playlist/articles/your-playlist-and-tv-guide-sky-glass

The retention period of the cloud recording will vary based on the rights for each sport, but to catch up with something the next day that is unlikely to be an issue.
