Sky cinema. possible changes

Looks like sky are considering making some changes to sky cinema. Possibilities include, sky cinema including a free sky store film weekly/monthly or for a £1, and removing paramount plus.

Removing Paramount+ is a bad idea. That's probably one of the key features that actually make Sky Cinema worth paying for.

I wonder if it has something to do with the imminent introduction of Paramount+'s premium tier in the UK, where you can pay more to get 4K/HDR.

I read they are launching 310 channel as free from 1st November, unless I am mistaken

Sky Cinema Bonfire Night will be free from 1 November according to the article and 2 November according to Sky to approx. 9 November and will be free for Sky customers only.
This is not a permanent change.

None of these really are interesting. And some are already on already on the Sky Signature/Ultimate TV pack.
An idea could be to remove the free Paramount+ and give us all of movies on the Sky Store for free instead.

Well that's absolutely not going to happen.

Sky Store is a completely separate entity to Sky Cinema and sells & rents individual movies from various film distributors. These films are sold on other streaming platforms such as Prime Video, Rakuten, Apple TV, and others and help keep the movie industry afloat.

Sky would have to spend an absolute fortune buying the rights to each and every movie to simply give them away to every Sky Cinema subscriber. It's categorically never going to happen.

Sky simply can't afford it, particularly when they already made a loss of £224 million last year, more than double the previous year's losses.

Corporate accountancy is very strange, though: Comcast is apparently prepared to have Peacock continue to lose half a billion dollars a quarter, for example.

Interesting to see the speculation that they may be considering ditching their cable television channels in the USA (although finding a buyer might be something of a challenge)

It's clearly an option, you are certainly not in a position to say it's not going to happen. You don't know, neither do I, but it is an option that they are definitely scoping customer opinion on, that's factual

My statement was in response to another post which stated that Sky should "give us all of movies on the Sky Store for free", not a free Sky Store rental as shown in your screen grab.

The option of giving all of movies on the Sky Store for free is categorically not going to happen. I work in the industry. Sky simply cannot afford to pay every studio on the planet for the rights to give their customers free access to every brand new movie released for sale and rental on every other platform. It's not going to happen. That's factual.

One of the options was to give sky cinema customers a free weekly pay movie, or give sky cinema customers for £1 each time. If sky wanted to give first rights to customers to all sky cinema package of say £24.99, they could easily do this. You don't know and neither do I.

Which is completely different to the option I was responding to... "give us all of movies on the Sky Store for free"
