I assume ITV1+1 London (SD) is remaining on 973 for the time being?

I find it a handy way to watch the London news from outside London without having to manually tune it.

I would presume so too, as +1 channels for other ITV channels are unaffected

Hi, is there any information about Eden going FTA yet? It's been confirmed as happening about a week ago (as well as joining Freeview and Freesat), but I haven't been able to find out when exactly it will happen.

Uktv as the station owner of Eden would be better placed to answer.

But bare in mind if information has not been released to the public domain by the owners, anyone that may know and releases it would be in breach of a confidentiality agreement

It would be nice if Sky actually told customers that channels were going rather that just doing it.

My recordings tonight disappeared and I could not understand why. I was on the verge of doing a box reboot and then I thought to come on here first and that I found out why. I initially searched to find out why 803 had gone, but it only brought up a post from 2022 and then I thought to check this thread.

I now have to try to figure out what I had programmed going forward for that channel and try and reschule it on the +1 if possible, otherwise it takes 3 or 4 times the space on my box in HD 😔

Is there a reason they keep doing this with no notice to customers?

Is there a reason they are getting rid of the SD channels, are they trying to push you into paying for HD?

803 was an ITV channel, and so not under the control of Sky. It was also free-to-air, as is its HD version: the Sky HD add-on is not required for viewing. There was considerable advance publicity of these changes going back to last year, but it's up to individual channels to decide how to advise their own viewers.

The BBC and ITV have closed down their duplicate SD satellite broadcasting because it was costing them a significant amount of money (from Licence Fee and diminished advertising income respectively) to keep that going for a very small number of legacy SD-only satellite receivers dating back two decades, all of which are now obsolete as they cannot support a modern transmission format.

Realistically, I'm afraid that recording space was not a consideration when these decisions were made.

The removal of SD channels is mostly down to the broadcasters not wanting to support two types of equipment, plus most mdern systems can handle HD so there is less point duplicating channels as only the older legacy system don't have HD support

The boxes are only meant for timeshifting of programmes and not archiving so the size should not matter if the box is used properly also load of stuff can be accessed via On Demand thus does not need storing long term

If you upgrade to Sky Q then +1 channels are very less relivant as Sky Q can record many channels at one time and it can stream content using apps thus not requiring disk space usage to store contect

Just an FYI, Sky don't need to announce changes. They do it because they want to and there is seemingly a need for it.

Look at Freesat, last Tuesday (1 October 2024), changes were made to some channels, and Freesat only announced them on X after it was done.

Why are you concerned about space on your Sky device? Once it's full, the oldest content gets erased. And if you want to keep something and protect it from being deleted, there is a "Keep" option. Or just watch it on ITVX on your Sky device?

Also, from my own personal view, SD TV is pretty much obsolete now, as well as time shift channels. Trying to watch an SD channel on a HDTV or 4KTV just makes it look awful and pixelated.

The reason why providers are removing SD channels is because only about 1% of the UK's population don't have access to HDTV and it's just not profitable.

Also Sky are putting their SD channels on satellite frequencies that use DVB-S2, which is used on Sky+HD and Sky Q receivers, and other HD receivers. So older Sky+ and Sky Digiboxes will soon lose the majority of channels, if they haven't already.

Why? I would suspect Sky don't want to offer support for older boxes long term any more, or it could be due to cost-saving issues.

Probably because it doesn't affect either the EPG number or name.

The Sky staff are given the information on channel changes quite near to the change date. I've not seen posts or mentions about encryption changes that often, so it's unlikely it would be announced on this post.

However, Eden will be changing to U&Eden soon when it launches on Freeview and Freesat. It's due to change on 16 October.

The loss of ITV SD for me, means the loss of ITV Meridian that I had in favourites, my ITV+1 is London. (103 is Anglia)
