For next month:

A spokesperson for Channel 4 confirmed to RXTV on Friday that the music channels 4Music, Kerrang, Kiss, Magic and The Box will no longer be available from Monday 1st July 2024.

At this point, the services will be delisted from Sky, Freesat and Virgin Media.

No doubt there will be the usual complaints about 'Sky removing channels', so this is relevant:

Channel 4’s spokesperson told RXTV "We will be closing our Box network of channels from 1st July across all platforms – as they are no longer of sufficient scale to deliver meaningful return on investment. Our strategy reflects the generational shift in TV viewing and involves reducing costs – particularly in linear activities – to allow us to invest in digital priorities and stay competitive in a world of global entertainment conglomerates and social media giants.”

No, and they are not being "switched off" SD channels are moving from DVB-S mpeg2 to DVB-S2 mpeg4 which Sky+HD & Sky Q boxes can receive.

@Trips+out Because all uk based customers get sky sports and cinema in hd as standard therefore it's not necessary to have sd versions in the uk

We have tried to explain, as per your other queries, that the move of the SD channels from DVB-S to DVB-S2 will have no impact on users with SKY HD & SKY Q boxes.

It is very similar to changes of frequencies that happen over time that are totally transparent to viewers

Oh great. I have an adult son with autism and severe learning disabilities who just happens to love watching The Box, Kerrang,4Music, and Kiss music channels on his Sky Q mini, he doesnt cope well with change and won't be happy that these channels are closing next month. Fingers and everything crossed no others will follow suit in the foreseeable future. Unfortunately this happens but he doesnt really understand that.

As the Channel 4 statement indicates, it's very difficult for any owner to justify continuing linear broadcast to an audience which largely isn't there any more, particularly with the added cost of satellite data transit.

Channel 4 Music is set to close original channel 354-358, VEVO can replace them with closing EPG gaps and lose MTV since 2020.

There are free alternative options where you can view music videos on Sky Q. You can use the Vevo or Roxi apps, both of which provide channels/playlists of music videos.

I do understand that this will be difficult for you and him. It may be beneficial to record a few hours/shows of each channel, so he can watch them after the channels close. You could also see if someone has a non-Sky free-to-air satellite reciever that records to a memory stick/dongle, and ask them to record the channels on seperate memory sticks and fill them up with the content of each of the 4 channels.

You could also create YouTube Playlists of music videos that are shown on these channels, so he can watch something similar.

Just some ideas. 🙂

@MaccyD221 Any changes that Sky are aware of will be posted accordingly. When Sky knows, we'll know. Simple. If there are no updates for next week, there are no changes.
