@Axel606 if it is only the WiFi why not do as I do myself and use a third party WiFi set up running in access point mode?. Gives me reliable WiFi in every room. Saves me paying for WiFi Max leaves the Sky hub and landline in place.

However note that many systems no longer give direct channel control as to be able to use the 5GHz DFS channels that control has to be automated to avoid interferencecwith higher priority users such as radar installations. Splitting the two bands breaks WiFi6 so limiting speed so that is often not offered. My own Deco system allows you to set up a separate SSID only using the 2.4GHz band for IOT kit.

Why can't I access my router settings ? I can't do it directly and it says use my sky app to change settings. Well after installing my sky app I can't do anything at all !

I used to be able to tweak the channels and speed etc no I can't do a single thing.
I want full control of my router.
how do I get it?

using white sr213 hub.

@Axel606 short answer is you cannot control channel selection or speed on the Sky Max hub.these unitsxarecheavily locked down

Once your service is live the limited settings thst are available can be found in the My Sky app under productvsettings assuming you are lgged in using the Sky id liinked to the account . These. Settings the ability to edit the SSID and password, set up a port forwarding rule, change the WiFi security kevel and turn the 2 WiFi bands on and off. . In common with many WiFi6 routers you cannot split the two WiFi bands or control the WiFi channels it uses both arexautomated. Occasionally the hub is not linked to your account properly when sent out where this happens call Sky to get thst corrected.

There is a web interface but once linked to thecapp this has very limited user controls bascially you use it to turn UPnP on or off.

Yes its not good at all especially for IT people like me.

They sent me a wifi booster which I told them was pointless given the distance is only about 15ft from my router and it wasnt going to change the bandwidth which was the problem. I was told they had to do this before sending an engineer or wifi expert as they call them.

I dont need an engineer , I need full access to my router settings, its overkill and stupid.

Anyway, let's see what happens with that, its pretty obvious restricted bandwidth on the 5ghz is going to cause problems when your watching movies, listening to music.

@Axel606 there are literally thousands of third party routers, WiFi mesh systems etc so its impossible the recommend one without knowing your needs. A popular choice are routers from Asus as they are easy to connect to any Sky fibre line. Sky are quite open that theiir hubs are configured for the average user and are not suitable for the hobbyist there has never been any flexibility offered.

Two things to cinsider if you chose to use a third party router is you will lose the use of the digital landline and Sky's diagnostics require a hub to be connected so in the event of a line issue you would have to reconnect the Sky hub to get support.

Ive never had to consider this, especially as its never been a problem before I upgraded to their fastest fiber plan. The ethernet works fine just not wifi. It may be my next option. Ill have a look at router options and compatibility.
