Providing the router isnt too hot to old your hand on it then i would say its fine, its likely to be plastic components getting warm for the first time. The smell should dissipate within a few days.

Plugged my new router in yesterday and there has been a gradual increase in a plastic-y smell. Doesn't smell like burning/ melting plastic but it's not pleasant! It smells more like when you plug a heater in that hasn't been used for a while....

The router is warm to the touch but not hot. Plug not hot.

I have read a few threads on Reddit etc saying some new electronics from China could smell for a while but I have never known something smell this bad!
