No it's a new house so the builders kindly thought to put an ethernet socket with the rest of the plugs in the lounge so the box receives wired internet anyway, it was how it linked up with the miniboxes I wasn't sure about

Hi all,

I'm new to mesh systems so please be gentle!

We have Gigafast with the Sky Max Hub and a Sky Q box with 2 miniboxes. The speed works fine when you're on top of it but pretty terrible once you get upstairs. There is an ethernet link from the Openreach connection to the lounge so the Sky Q box is wired but everything else uses WiFi. We don't need massive speeds or anything complex, we just need a reliable, fast connection for streamingg & video calls.

I'm looking at the Deco X55 3 pack as a solution to get stronger WiFi elsewhere in the house. If I understand correctly, when we setup we would connect one X55 unit to the Sky Router, set the X55 as an Access Point, turn off the WiFi on the Sky Q box & Sky router and it should all work - is that correct? If I do this, will the Sky Q box still create the network to connect with the Sky miniboxes? Anything else I should know?

I'm also not sure whether to buy the 2 pack or the 3 pack - my house is about 1,400 sq ft. Any advice is much appreciated!

I don't have multi room so I don't know if you need to turn off wifi for them separately.

Thanks for the advice.

My Sky Q box isn't close enough to the main hub/ main Deco to wire it in but if it's connected via an ethernet line into the wall, is that the same thing?

Also assuming the plugs are on the same electrical circuit, I find them to be very reliable and currently use Tenda 1Gbps adapters for connecting an alarm system in my garage and garden as well an underwater camera in my pond.

Best of luck let us know how you get on.

Do you have ethernet sockets everywhere?

Correct - other end of the ethernet is connected to the hub.

Unfortunately just the one ethernet socket - would have been much handier to have them everywhere!
