By awful and bad wifi do you mean you have a poor signal throughout your home ?

What do you mean by "I updated my WiFi a few weeks ago" ? Did you upgrade your broadband speed? Did you change your router?

As asked by @caesarome , what exactly are the issues you are having - is it the wi-fi coverage being poor?

Will need much more detailed information about your setup and problem to advise what might help.
