Hello,

First Post.

My Landlord had FTTP few months back.

I am not overly familier with FTTP as only ever had FTTC elsewhere.

I did a few speed tests from my laptop which i know is not ideal as wifi.
Average below.
22.36
Upload Mbps
19.44

Apart from upload showing more, i was always getting 30 approx down even before the upgrade.

I connected my laptop via Ethernet to the Hub (Not fibre box yet as not sure if thats better). I was getting 90

I tried accessing the router home page but dont know password. tried usual sky or admin etc. I can see basic settings only.

I dont want to mess about too much as it's not my account. I know Sky won't help me without landlord consent.

Currently shows 8 devices and i can account for most apart from a few unknown which could be the Firestick. I disconnected my phone wifi and Amazon fire stick for testing.

Amazon stick seems to buffer more, and landlord hasn't mentioned slowness and she has sky tv in two rooms.

I am not sure of the Package or what it's supposed to be.

Hardware appears a normal setup with a openreach box with Power/LOS "not lit" PON solid green/LAN solid green.

This connects to a SKY Hub box which im pretty sure was replaced although looks the same as previous.

Does this cound correct

I did try SKy chat but said could not connect at present , but not sure if they would advise if it didnt sound right even without being account holder.

Any advice

Thanks

@Mr_Chic the speed will depend on the package your landlord is buying while full fibre can support speeds up to 1Gb/s (the highest Sky sell on Openreach lines) customers can buy packages down to 80Mb/s although 100Mb/s is normal. The speeds you will see on a device connected by ethernet will becroughly 92% ofvthe connection speed so 90Mb/s is consistentvwith a 100Mb/s connection give or take.which has a 20Mb/s upload speed.

Once WiFi iis being used the speeds is often limited by the WiFi speeds in the building which is determined by the layout and how it is built. Older properties with solid internal walls are oarticular issue. Having multiple WiFi sources can help if they are designed to work together. Sky charge extra for their WiFi Max package which can supply up to 3 extenders. To dtrrsam video you need both sufgicent bandwidth (say 30Mb/s for UHD) but equally important is a stable signal. Firesticks are an issue as by design they are plugged in beind TVs which contain metal which blocks WiFinsignal somin a room with iffy WiFi to start with your issue is not unusual. Using a HDMI extension cable can help -oddly Amazon sell these its almost if they knew the limitations of their kit 😄

The lights on the ONT are correct Passive Optical network being green is good. Loss Of Signal being off is also good..

Thanks,

I imagine the last package was a Fibre30 which i had in previous flat with TalkTalk. I think that may of been the max over copper.

Signal was better as only ground floor.

It was fine for me with only 3 devices.

I do have a small HDMI extension for the firestick i think i bought as was easier to plug it in. They can easily be dislodged.
