Why are Routers not replaced with modern updated Wifi 6E/7? My current Wi-Fi 5 SR203 Router I have discovered is ridiculously outdated and the reason why my VR headset performs poorly, as they require at least WIFI 6E, with the current gen being WIFI 7.

Because many people don't need WiFi 6 and definitely not 7 partly due to not having devices that need or support them, but mainly due to the price of the BB going up to cover the cost. That said the Sky Max router is WiFi 6 but isn't particularly well regarded for it's WiFI performance.

Anyone who does need it will know a little of what's required and will simply add their own WiFi 6 or 7 mesh system and disable the Sky routers internal WiFi.

Sky Hubs/Routers are replaced when they reach end of life, but for many, the SR203 is still fine for daily use.

You can speak to Sky and upgrade to the white Sky Max hub which is WiFi 6, and the WiFi 7 Sky Gigafast+ Hub is also available, but only on a few CityFibre connections.

If you do a deeper search of the broadband forum, others have added other more modern WiFi mesh kit such as TP-Link Deco systems to their Sky broadband, but obviously how comfortable you are with this depends on your technical knowledge.

It's a pragmatic business decision by Sky: other ISPs do the same thing.

As @stereohaven said , you can get a WiFi 6 router by paying the WiFi Max subscription supplement, but for best performance from VR the cumulative cost might be better put towards third-party hardware

Note that a Sky Hub is required if you want to access Sky Talk Internet Calls.

I will look into third party routers on Amazon, the most popular seem to be TP-Link and Cudy for 6E or 7.

I don't have any experience with Eero kit personally, so can't advise really, but if you are messing around with cutting edge VR, it looks to me like future proofing with WiFi 7could be a safer bet for longevity 👍🏻

As someone posted earlier, if you or anyone else in the household uses the house phone then you can not remove the Sky router (it's a Sky thing) as it has to be plugged into the back of their router.

If not, have at it.

If there's an online forum for your VR headset, then ask on there for recommendations as you'll have a much larger dataset to work with than on here where the majority of the posts tend to be 'my broadband's broke, help' 😉
