That's because Q pre-dates the acquisition of Sky Group by the Comcast Corporation, and the Max Hub is a Comcast product which doesn't contain the proprietary Q Mesh technology.

We have just changed over to FFTP. The Sky engineer set up up the Sky boxes on the wifi before he left andI am sure these were using the SSID on the card that came in the box. I was faced with a choice: days of setting up the dozens of devices with the new SSID that would fail because some need static addresses or change the SSID to what was previously in place so everything just works.

I went for the latter and many settings simply transfered over like a dream! However, the Sky Q Silver box was the only one to fail to connect, even with WPS. Each time it would fail to find the connection. My old box was connected via Ethernet so I plugged it in and it was connected. However, now it had a completely different SSID to everything else. At first, I thought it had connected to a neighbour's wifi that didn't require a password until I could see it connected in the My Sky app. The miniboxes also connected to it simply.

We have a dead spot in the main bedroom with a couple of mobile phones dropping wifi and going onto 5G. There is a minibox in that room which works perfectly. I thought they act as a mesh but do not seem to be benefitting despite being close by. Do we have to connect to them using the special SSID shown on the Silver box and, if so, how do we find out the password as it isn't the same as for the router it connects to? Is the set up of the TV boxes OK?

In case anyone else has the same issue, even though I had a Sky broadband hub and changed to a Sky Max FTTP Hub, the Sky boxes had to be set up as if I was connecting them to a provider other than Sky! Doing as Sky finds no WiFi devices but doing as non-Sky allows for entering the details for the correct SSID or locate others within range.
