This seemed to work but now I would need to have the cable permanently installed which will be expensive and I don't see why I should have to fork out to fix what is Sky's problem?

Anyway, I found the below link on another thread so have logged it with Sky and waiting for a reponse: -

https://www.sky.com/help/forms/vpn-configuration?authenticationStatus=ok

Further to above, Sky did the remote router upgrade but to no effect, still only getting 10-15mbps and being embarrassingly dumped out of Teams calls etc. Sky now say there is nothing more they can do. Work says it's my broadband provider's issue. I can't do anything about the work situation so I will change my broadband provider. Having looked initially I can see fibre providers offering guaranteed 500mbps for significantly less then Sky's poor offerings at so I'll be changing very soon.

A possible workaround until you decide what to do might be to try a WiFi mesh system, the Sky routers WiFi is disabled and you'd be using the 3rd party (much newer) WiFi setup.

If there's one or more altnet (non-Openreach) full fibre networks available locally then yes, they can typically undercut any Openreach ISP because they aren't paying a wholesale rental cost for the circuit.
