Work on the backhaul network would not interfere with the optical signal generated from the exchange. Sounds like work was being done at Sky's end probably on the servers that manage traffic etc.

If thst is correct the service should have come back by now. If it hasnt the online service checker should tell you mire.

WiFi stopped working, checked everything the voice light on the hub is showing orange. Checked ONt all lights are on and green bar the LOS light which is just not on, not even red. Have done all the steps like turning on and off, unplugging and replugging in of the cables and it's still not working. Any help is much appreciated

It is carried out at those times to minimise disruption and there is no advance warning provided. See this pinned post at the top of the Broadband board from Sky which could be relevant any night this happens…
https://helpforum.sky.com/t5/Broadband/Important-Notice-Scheduled-Broadband-Maintenance/td-p/5151847#M1014

If you have an ONT box displaying a red light, see this further advice…
https://helpforum.sky.com/t5/Broadband-Talk/Can-t-connect-to-broadband-and-have-a-red-light-on-your-ONT/ba-p/5151861#

This link provides information about the coloured lights you may see on the various hubs
https://www.sky.com/help/articles/hub-lights-explained-start

Hopefully it’s back up and running before 7am.
