Hi there,

I moved into a new house around 5 months ago with Sky set for installation in December 2025, when the engineers came out to install the tv/hub they said we'd need a wayleave to get FTTP as we live on a private road.

They expected this to be completed in January and then pushed it back and kept pushing it back and now we're here, 5 months later, a few hundred into unlimited mobile sims which barely work for our whole house (which includes 3 adults who work from home).

I'm unsure what to do at this point? We were told we wouldn't be paying for the internet during this time which is good but then they told us as we had the TV installed we'd have to pay for that - it works but a non negligible percentage of having a sky tv box is being able to use functions enabled by the internet i.e on demand, built in streaming apps for a streamlined experience (disney, netflix), syncing recordings between boxes - the majority of these functions struggle to work with our mobile data (which we are paying extra for) so being told that we're paying the full price of TV without the full functionality sucks.

Please let me know if there's any advice regarding this.

Thanks so much!

ISPs don't negotiate wayleave: that's between the landowners and the national network provider (BT Wholesale/Openreach in the UK or their equivalent in RoI)

Unfortunately Sky will only have as much information as Openreach care to give them: there are also potential issues about revealing information regarding the negotiation with landowners which should remain confidential.

However as you recently bought your property you could speak to your solicitor or whoever carried out the conveyance if they can suggest a way forward as if your access is via a private road there maybe something in your property rights which may help.

Unfortunately where full fibre is available Openreach will not accept an order for partial fibre using a copper line unless fibre is proved impossible rather than delayed. Changing isp wont change thst as the issue isnt csused by Sky.
