So this is for my mothers account who does not do forums and things. She has a router that I do not remember when it was first installed but I am not sure it has ever been changed in the 15+ years she has had Sky. She is still on a SkyHD box and I am not sure that has ever been replaced either! I know - I suggested she needs a package review, but she is trying to avoid both Q and Glass.

Her broadband connection is really slow though and I have done everything to improve the WiFi signal across the house short of running in a new router. The current one is a DLink (MAC 5C:D9:98:**:**:**)

Now... what should (or can) I replace it with? I am thinking more compatibility rather than specific features - or do Sky simply swap out equipment this old?

Unless your mother has previously told Sky that she authorises you can speak on her behalf she will have to make the call perhaps with you sitting there to take over the call.

She can continue to pay for Sky+HD but if her box fails Sky cannot replace it.

They will probably want to charge a monthly supplement for the Max Hub, but you can try insisting on getting the previous Sky Broadband Hub.

Discounting Glass/Stream the only 'replacement' for Sky+ HD is Sky Q, which itself has a few years left and is no longer an option to order through the Sky website. Sky+ HD boxes haven't been manufactured for a decade and Sky no longer permits the transfer of viewing cards between them.

Thanks everyone for your replies.

JimM1 & Chrisee - Thanks I will check out the hub options. I know she would have to make the call, although if the web link is easier she can log in.

TimmyBGood - Yes, it almost certainly is ADSL connected. I suspect replacements are not going to be? I already knew of the discontinuation of Sky Q - I had that chat when I had another relatives SkyQ box swapped out due to failure.

So on the basis of it probably being ADSL; I imagine that the options are even more limited?

They'd almost certainly want to move the connection to FTTC as a minimum (FTTP where possible) if you requested a current Hub model. Openreach really doesn't want to be supporting the digital equivalent of ADSL after PSTN ceases if it can possibly avoid this.

Ahhhh my apologies.

I thought you meant that they would absolutely push down the fibre route. I think I got the wrong end of the stick.

So I sat with my mother while I spoke to Sky today. The **only** option is to upgrade to full fibre and a new contract. So she told me not to bother.

So thank you everyone for your help, but it looks like the free swap out is no longer available.
