I have been told by Sky that I have full fiber available, I have just had an open reach engineer tell me that they have to dig a trench 135 metres long and cross 19 driveways to reach me. I have been paying Virgin my current tariff and an additional Sky TV package that I would be assured would be the same cost with full fiber and tv package from Sky. This has been going on for nearly a year now I now have an unwanted Sky TV package as well as my Virgin one and is costing me an unwanted amount.

@RichardVan The sky TV package is Broadband Internet independant so works with any service provider, so having Virgin BB and sky TV is ok as a working connection, getting OR Fibre all the way to the home is proving to be difficult for OR at times and as you can see they have told you new duct layout is going to be required, so civils are required to do all off that. Looks like planning has just not gone very well, and the it's available direct to your home has jumped the gun somewhat at present. If you are finding one is not working well with the other take it up with sky, and getting the Broadband Fibre laided in is all down to OR and there planning for getting that done, did have the same issues in my area where certain homes all the other side off the street were exactly 1 year delayed, so that was Jun 2025 they started to get civils done, and one home was connected i think last month as they were digging up cross road again.. So that one was 18 months from live in the area.

Openreach contributes a maximum of around £3200 for any individual installation, with households expected to cover any excess. It therefore sounds like your location would be outside the remit of the national rollout: something like 15% of UK properties fall into this category.

I'm unclear what the relevance of the Sky television package is.

I have been told repeatedly by Sky that I have a full fiber connection available, so I signed up to Sky for full fiber and tv package for the equivalent price of my current Virgin package, I was supplied a Sky puck for TV and I was charged £15 on top of my Virgin and still after nearly a year I haven't got full fiber and paying for a TV package I didn't really need.

Sky doesn't 'package' broadband and television: while these are sometimes co-sold they remain technically separate products (unlike Virgin where their branded television isn't available on broadband from other ISPs). A Stream puck will work on any broadband.

All Openreach ISPs rely on the BT Wholesale database when selling FTTP: they don't have any additional information about the practicalities of installation or a mechanism for establishing this.
