Hello

3 weeks ago I upgraded my WiFi from 150mbs to 300 and there has been zero improvement in download speed. When I run speed test results I get the same as before, if not worse on occasions.

Right now I'm downloading something and I'm getting 20-30mbs a second which is even worse than usual. Previously on the 150mbs package this would typically be 70-100mbs.

Not entirely sure what I'm getting out of this upgrade at the moment... any suggestions on how I can see improved dl speeds on the basis that my package is supposed to have doubled?

Thanks

The speed that is needed is what you think is required then cover the extra as a JIC factor! See if the sky help below does you any good!

https://www.sky.com/help/articles/broadband-speeds-explained

Fundamentally you're paying for extra speed delivered over optical fibre and ethernet cable as far as the router. Whether that translates to better throughput to WiFi devices depends on multiple factors including the capabilities of the devices themselves, the local wireless environment, the physical fabric of the property and even what the neighbours are doing.

It's also worth considering that higher bandwidth at the router can enable more devices to get 'enough' to do what they need to do, rather than higher peak speed to any in particular.

Thanks both for the replies

Done some digging and turns out my router was defaulting to the 2.4Ghz channel for whatever reason which is capped at 144mbs, seperated the channels out, manually connected to the 5.2Ghz and actual DL speed has increased massively!
