Garden room internet

Hi,

I would like to extend my broadband to my garden room by hard wiring my router with an ethernet cable to a WiFi extender that also has some more ethernet ports to directly connect some devices as well as the extended WiFi signal. Can you please advise if this is possible. Many thanks in advance.

@Modelbuilder Should be possible, you do not say which extender you plan to use but just make sure that your device all works indoors next to your sky Hub before you move it all out for operation remotely!

Possible, yes, but Sky won't offer any help with getting such a set-up to work.

Thank you for your replies, sorry I should have been a little more specific and state I would like to know exactly what extender or equipment I would need to achieve what I would like to do that will work with sky's router?

@Modelbuilder you actually need a WiFi access point as you are not actually extending the Sky WiFi but in fact having a separate network you dhould not hit issues with interference as the two networks should not overlap. Something like this example should work most have two or more Ethernet ports. Their sre literally dozens to chose from but TP-Link are reasonably priced and simple to set up.

When running the cable buy external grade Cat5e or above cable. Terminating Ethernet cable isnt difficut but you do need to know what you are doing and have the right tools to attch the rj45 connectors.. If paying someone check they understand networking as many electricians don't!

What distance are you looking at?

A domestic access point might not work reliably for more than a few metres once it's gone through two walls or windows, particularly with wet air or damp foliage in the way.

A pair of point to point units to form a wireless bridge might be more appropriate.

@Modelbuilder Match your WAP to the model off your sky Hub that you are using, Wifi5 get an AC version, wifi6 get an AX version, remember to pick a small Tp-Link switch to cover your Ethernet port usage, they come as 5 or 8 the TL-SG105S works well and can even be supplied via USB at 5V operation if needed adapter cable required is the Lindy 70266.
