@Technik21 WiFi channel selection should not be possible on the Sky Max hub when it is properly configured as the My Sky app doesn't allow it. As you have found the web interface has almost all setting options greyed out as the Hub is now matched to your account for what ever reason this did not happen when you got the unit as it should have done. Once matched Sky will not switch it back

This is by design as the hub can use higher 5GHz channels which in the UK can only be used if the hub does not detect higher priority users like radar. It has the side effect if you have kit that cannot use channels 12 or 13 because for example it was designed for sale in the US rather than Europe.

You are not alone in not being too impreseed with the WiFi performance which is why I use a third party set up for my WiFi.

Before now, I have been able to change my Wifi channel within my Sky Max Wifi 6 hub as I have one 2.4ghz (New) device that loses connection with certain WiFi channels and I have to now and then change the channel. (I haven't disabled Automatic channel selection to manual yet, so that is my next step), but when logging in as admin, all I can change now under the Wifi connection tab within "Gateway"/"Connection", is to Enable or Disable the Wireless Network. Everything under the "Wifi Network Configuration 2.4ghz" is greyed out.

I have had the (white) Max 6 hub for 18 months now and can't say I am that impressed with the router's wifi performance, as I also have a new dual wifi mains powered security camera that is less than 10mtrs away from the room it sits in, but still has flaky wifi connection.

I also have in place a WiFi 6 extender nearby the devices in question, and even though the distance from the router with each device is no more than 15 mtrs at most and is seperated by one thin dry wall partition (with no glass or nearby metal or electrical objects), the signal drops out, but does become more stable with certain WiFi channels. The house internal fabric is dry wall construction.
I have checked both devices are set for the correct wifi frequency.

I will try again to reboot the hub and hopefully restore the greyed out options, but if there is anything obvious I need to check, I would be grateful for advice.

Thanks all.

I usec 3 Deco M4 units in Access Point mode behind the Sky hub for WiFi duties. If you do want to switch router Asus areca good choice.

Hi @Chrisee ,

Since our discussion yesterday and the helpful advice you gave me, I have decided I may invest in a Mesh setup specifically the Deco XE75 Pro, a Triband setup which I beleive will be overkill for my particular issue but more future proof.
Thinking of the 3 unit pack, but perhaps 2 maybe enough in a 300 sq mtr house.
I understand the Deco cannot replace the SKY Max hub entirely as my connection is 1gb full fibre FTTP.

I then wondered if I were just to change the Sky hub to one of the Asus hubs which has better general performance and wifi coverage, would this be preferable instead of adding extra equipment, but I guess there is no knowing this will fix my issue without buying and testing it.

I would be interested to hear your thoughts if you have the time? 🙂

@Technik21 whether you need 2 or 3 units will depend on the layout of your home and how it is built. Adding a third unit to a 2 unit kit is not going to be much more expensive than buying a three unit pack so if you find you don't need a third you save money.

You maybe able to connect the Deco to the ONT as explained in this thread which is likely to be the best solution assuming you dont need the digital voice line. Whether it works is down to the exchange kit but roughly 80% of Openreach lines are OK. Next possible solution is to set the new unit in router mode behind the Sky hub as in practice Double NAT set ups work fine. If both fail set the Deco in Access Point mode you lose some of TP-Links bells and whistles but it works very well for me.

If you buy an Asus router stick tto their mesh extenders Do not mix wifi from different manufacturers unless you enjoy trouble shooting interference issues. Howver as it happens my Deco and Sky hub's Wi`Fi co-exist happily although I do run the Deco optimisation routine every now and again.

I gave up,trying to future proof on network gear as I found by thr time I required faster gear the price had come down so much itvsimply wasn't wworth it but YMMV
