That all makes sense once it is explained.

I found a work-around by making my Sky Q mini boxes into wi-fi hotspots, and that works in the dead area I was trying to cover.

I bought a sky max extender from a 3rd party, but it will not connect to my router. It is not recognised on My Devices, and I cannot find how to connect it using the serial number. Is there a way to do this?

Whoever gave it you will be charged by Sky when the leave Sky as the pods like tge hubs are loaned not given away.

@Chrisee Thanks for your response, that makes sense. A Sky adviser told me that if I didn't want to rent a pod for an additional £8.00 per month, I could buy a 3rd party extender to get full Wi-fi coverage. There was no mention of enabling the Sky Max router to achieve this.

Thank you for shedding light on this.

The pods are matched to the hub so can be used to extend the same SSID. A thirdparty booster cannot work in the same way so can cause interference but in most cases should work.
