Change WiFi Passkey

Hi there,

Just got my new router from Sky today (its a SR213A-02-UK-wht). I want to change a few settings (network name, wifi passkey, etc..). I connect to the router using a browser and the 192.168.0.1 address, login access the WiFi menu and face a message "To edit your Wi-Fi Network Name & Network password, please download the My Sky app." Of course the app can only be installed on a phone. I don't want to install yet another app on my phone (that is old and doesnot work so well) and would like to do that straight from my browser. Is that possible? If not, why do we have to go through the app? I find this a bit annoying and wondered whether there is a way around it.

Thank you very much!

Antoine

Administering smart hardware is increasingly moving to in-app because it's getting harder to convince web browsers to talk to devices with self-signed SSL certificates: realistically it's also how more people now expect to do such things.

Despite what the rest have already put here you can log in to the hub via a browser and control the hubs advanced settings through it.

The default gateway credentials I have found to be successful to login to the Hub and control it via a browser is the username of "admin" and using the WiFi password/passkey printed on the bottom of the hub.

After contacting support as well as searching online other credentials offered were a combination of "sky" / "admin" for username and "sky" / default WiFi password printed on the device as the password.

If the credentials don't work or get refused as being incorrect, try resetting the router back to default by holding down the WPS button on the side for 30 seconds and waiting for the Hub to reboot and show a static white led on the front before trying again.

Apologies @Chrisee, you are correct in that most features are still locked behind use of the My Sky App.

But the Hub Gateway can still be accessed to make certain changes and therefore is not the only way to administer it's local network. For example my Hub (new recent connection) is not appearing in the App. So granted, at the moment the gateway still has the ability to see the following and I am yet yo see it disappear or be removed should that connection be made;

Manage Local IPv4 & v6 settings, Edit the WiFi network (including disabling them), Firewall settings, Connected devices (DHCP Reservation), rudementary Parental controls (Sites / Services), Port Triggering, UPnP (as you mentioned), logging information and a few service status diagnostic tools.

I agree it is still basic level but I'm sure some information @AnPL would find somewhat useful if determined to avoid the App.

It's a shame that for those that are both knowledgable and confortable in managing their own networking infrastucture that it is done this way. A simple "Modem only" feature via the web interface would have been nice.

@McOoie Sky lock down their hubs on purpose something I questioned myself when I first had an opportunity to interact with the teams responsible for developing the hubs. They politely explained that the "enthusiasts" market is not large enough to compromise their desire to simplify support for the vast majority of their customers.. They have therefore never offered modem or bridge modes on any of their hubs despite these beiing requested on numerous occasions. For many years they officially banned use of customers' own routers something that only changed when Ofcom instructed ISPs to allow it.

There are other isps with different policies who maybe a better match for the enthusiast but Sky are openly a mass market supplier.
