FTTP Install

Hi all, simple question which hopefully someone may be-able to help. just about to pull the trigger on a new broadband install, currently with Now FTTC, but looking at going back to Sky with one of the deals on the FTTP.

The only thing that concerns me , as many before I'm sure, is the prospect of digging up the driveway to get the cable to my property. I've had a look on the BT Broadband Checker site and it says: Single Dwelling Unit Residential OH Feed With Line Of Sight Problems Trees.

I understand the reference, line of sight problems, theres trees opposite, with a few light branches between us and the telegraph pole. But does the OH Feed mean that the cable would come to my property above ground in the same manner as the telephone copper wire currently does. Negating the need to dig a trench.

Many thanks in advance for any replies.

Is it taken from a pole or is it under ground. This will give you an idea of what is going to happen in regards to your FTTP install.

Overhead feed with trees in the way. Only delay would be availability of a team to cut them back. Otherwise no digging is required

The warning about trees may mean that it cannot be done but the engineer will have to make that judgement on the day.

Thank you all for your replies, appreciate you taking the time. Yes currently the broadband comes into the property directly from the pole above ground, regarding the trees, the current copper wire goes through the one of the trees, but right at the tip of the foilage, branches, so hopefully it wouldn't be a problem.

There is another pole to the rear of my property which is unobstructed so if the currect pole is a problem I guess they might be able to re-assign my property to the second one.

looks like it might be time to place an order.

The 1 stage install status indicates that openreach think it can be dealt with on the first visit. So hopefully they come prepared with a hoist at the very least

As there are tree branches in the way that could interfere with the new cable run the engineer may offer a cut and draw to replace the existing copper cable with a new fibre optic one to prevent delays waiting on tree cutting

this is something that would be discussed on the day of the fttp installation visit

also if you are coming back to sky from now tv you would need to have a new number assigned due to the change in technology

Just jumping on this thread as yesterday I received an email from openreach advising that full fibre was now available at my address. Was very sceptical at 1st as the last time I looked on the openreach portal it said there were no plans. Any way went onto the portal & all looks good. Logged into my sky account and looks available. What might have changed I haven't seen any openreach engineers around. Last summer I had an engineer round to look at a fault I had with my line & asked him if he had any ideas as the streets around me had already been done. He said that the other streets had poles & my street was underground (had never noticed that before). My concern/query is on the openreach portal it has the 'Single Dwelling Unit Residential OH Feed potential Line of sight problems' message yet there are no poles within about 200 feet. Also started noticing that some properties on my street didn't have the message, some stated that fttp wasn't available, it's only a small close with 10 houses each side. Am I wasting my time putting an order in? & if I did would they need to dig up my driveway
