How to change Wi-Fi signal to 2.4ghz

I recently changed my broadband to Sky and am having trouble connecting a Wi-Fi time switch (Time Guard wifiFST) that controls an outside light. The app to control it says I have to have 2.4ghz broadband. I have a Sky 4.2 router which I believe is 5 ghz.
I have typed in 192.168.0.1, to my browser, logged in and clicked on Wi-Fi on the menu bar at the top of the page. I have clicked channel 6 which I believe is 2.4 ghz.) and pressed apply but it seems to make no difference. There are however other tick boxes which can be changed. Do I need to alter any of these? I'm afraid my tech. Knowledge is fairly basic. HELP PLEASE!!

Note that this process does not apply to the new (white) Max Hub

So to split the two channels you need to go to your router config page which can be found by typing 192.168.0.1 into your web browser.

To access the page, you'll need;

username: admin

password: sky OR your WiFi password

- Select wireless from the navigation bar and scroll down a little and untick the 'Synchronise 2.4GHz and 5GHz settings'

- Scroll to the bottom of the page and hit apply.

- Once the page reloads you need to go to the 5GHz wireless settings page on the sub navigation bar below where you click wireless before

- In the 5GHz section you want to go to the box called 'Name (SSID)' and add something like 5g to the end of the current name

- Scroll down and hit apply

- Then on any wireless device you should now see two networks. One network will be the same name as usual and will be 2.4GHz band and the other will be the usual name with 5G on the end (Or whatever you typed). Connect any 5GHz capable device to the 5GHz network and see if it works correctly. The WiFi password should be the same if you havent changed it.

Thank you so much for the quick answer - and plain English! I've followed the instructions and everything seems to be ok. However, the device I'm trying to connect to is a fairly simple Wi-Fi Timer, and when I try to connect I'm not offered an option between 2.4ghz and 5.0ghz. I suspect the Timer defaults to the strongest signal, which I assume is 5.0ghz? Rather than split the signal as you have suggested, is it possible to disable 5.0ghz?

Hi, I'm having the same problem as mentioned above. I followed your instructions but once I enter the username and password and press ok it just empties the boxes to just do the same over and over again and I can't get in to the settings.

@Angie93 the username admin and password on the label must becentered exactly as printed and it is easy to misread a 0 for an O.

I see a superuser has replied to your message, hopefully that has sorted the problem?
It's a long time since I had this problem and all I can remember is I couldn't resolve the router issue and instead had to use my phone as the router by tethering it to someone else's phone. Somewhere in this thread should be the instructions as to how to do this...

Found the post on what I did. Hope it works for you.

This procedure requires 2 phones, or a tablet/ipad and a phone

Phone A / Tablet should have the app installed on it and phone B is to be used as the WiFI hotspot.

For iPhone:

i) Phone B: Temporarily rename the iPhone as the router network name. (in settings -> general -> about)

ii) Phone B: In the iPhone Wi-Fi Hot spot settings set the router password as the hotspot password.

iii) Temporarily switch the router off.

iv) Phone A/Tablet: Link the phone with the app to the iPhone hotspot

v) Carry out the pairing.

vi) Phobe B: Switch the Wi-Fi hotspot off

vii) Switch the router back on.

viii) Phone B: Rename the iPhone to its original name.

For Android:

i) Phone B: Go to the settings menu

ii) Phone B: Select Hotspot

iii) Phone B: Set the Wi-Fi hot spot name to be the same as the router network name

iv) Phone B: Tablet: In the Wi-Fi Hot spot settings set the router password as the hotspot password.

v) Temporarily switch the router off.

vi) Phone A/Tablet: Link the phone with the app to the Android hotspot

vii) Carry out the pairing.

viii) Phone B: Switch the Wi-Fi hotspot off

ix) Switch the router back on.

Still having an issue with trying to connect smartlife plugs.. tried the two phone method but iphoneb wont connect via wifi hotspot. Tried typing the code into the browser but when I type in admin and password the page refreshes and wants me to enter it again!

Anyone got any more suggestions?
