When there are issues between midnight and 7am it's quite possibly going to be essential overnight maintenance taking place which is carried out then to minimise disruption as most customers are asleep. Neither Openreach not their ISPs give advanced notice of this. Hopefully it'll be back before 7.

@CantGetVirginIn there cannot be a "DNS issue between Sky and Openreach" so that is a complate invention by someone with no idea of how broadband and internet actually works. Openreach and Sky like all network operators have to maintain and upgrade their equipment and on occasions you will lose connection between midnight and 5am. Operators chose these times to cause the minimum issues for customers.

Your choice of systems in your "smart home" that require an internet connection to operate without a fallback of local control is questionable as no ISP can or will promise 24/7 uninterupted connectivity. Voice control is a nice add-on but should nor replace the fall back of local control.

Occasional loss of connection is as inevitable as overnight road closures, rail replacement buses and flight delays due to weather irritating but part of modern life.
