WPA3 means printer will not connect

We moved to a Sky Max hub last week - since then I've not been able to connect my Canon Pixma TS3355 printer to the network.

The issue is apparently the WPA3 security protocol; some advice online suggests disabling this, connecting the printer and then reenabling it, but that sounds a bit dangerous security-wise if you don't know what you're doing (like me)!

Any advice? We've also not been able to connect our Sonos sound bar, I'm assuming for the same reasons.....

There's no risk in doing so if nothing else is being conducted online at the same time.

(although even if it were the address would have to be under preexisting local wireless surveillance to be a concern,)

Thanks - do you have an idea how to disable and reenable the WPA3? I'm not particularly tech literate, and can't find a 'dummies guide' online 🙂

Also - is this something Sky recommends?

It will be in your router settings area on the My Sky app. Under security or something like that.

@stevew63a you can change the Wifi security settings onntge Wifi Max hub in the My Sky app go to Wifi settings, then choose Advanced Settings the Wifi Security level which has three options the default WPA3-T , WPA3 and WPA2 you cannotvdisablecthe security totally. Choose WPA 2 if your devices connect using that setting I would leave it.

There are 2 types of router being used by Sky. If you have the white one, you can use the My Sky app > Broadband > Wifi settings > Advanced settings > Wifi security level and drop the WPA settings down to WPA2 to allow the printer connection, but, if you have the black one, as I am are finding out, the router will not appear in your My Sky app as one of your products and therefore its not as easy to change your WPA settings.

To get to those go into your web browser and type in 192.168.0.1 > select an option like Wireless or WiFi > Sky Q hub or Sky hub - enter the hub name and password - username: admin, password:sky, or, for a Sky broadband hub - : username: admin, the password will be the wifi password on the hub.username

However, I did this for my sister and have found that the WPA2 setting, which is what I need to connect to her printer, is not there. I spoke to a tech at Sky who told me how to get to the above settings page but couldnt give me any further info on how to change the WPA3 setting to WPA2, so thats what I now need to find out. Can anyone help with that?

Open your web browser and type in 192.168.0.1

Select an option from the top menu bar i.e. Wireless or Wifi

Enter the hub name and password.

For Sky Q hub or Sky hub - Username : admin password: sky.

For Sky broadband hub- Username: admin password: it's the wifi password on the hub

You'll then be able to see all the settings for your hub, but WPA2, which is what my printer requires, is not there to change. Cannon printers instructions state WPA2 is required to connect, not WPA3 etc.

If it's a white Max Hub, that change is made in the My Sky app rather than the web page built-in to the Hub.

Yes, my own is the white one and I changed my WPA settings in it quite easily, but there is no such facility for my sisters hub, which is the black one. For that hub, you can only change those settings by going to the 192.168.0.1 page, but, the option to drop the WPA setting to WPA2 is not there. I think this is a common issue but I just cant find out how I can change to WPA2.

@Pebbles2 the older black hubs default to WPA2-PSK so no change is needed for wifi security. If you have issues connecting printers there are various things to try like factory resetting the printer or connecting by USB to a PC and updating its firmware which usually works..

Thanks for that. I dont know if the fact my sister uses a MAC complicates matters, but I'm leaving it for today. I'll have another go over the weekend.
