Open Reacn turned up today to install full fibre. As we live in an old bungalow with few sockets it was difficult to get the cables and boxes to where the router and phone currently are.

We discussed options to re site everything and the kitchen seemed the best option. But I didn't really like that.

A while later the OR guys said they could come back another time if I need to have a think about it and that's what was decided.

So, coming into the attic at the gable end, around 15 metres then along and down a door frame means no re siting.
I want to do this myself so there are no attic access issues for the OR guys. Also read the fibre optic install guide so can modify the door architrave to get the soft bend the cable needs.

My question is what grade/type of fibre optic cable do I need to use. It will be around 20 metres in total.

Thanks,

Marty.

Openreach won't use any optical fibre installed by a private individual: it's their network up to the ONT.

What you could do is put in your own ethernet cable to position the ISP router somewhere further from the ONT.
