My wife has just received a text message, ostensibly from Sky, offering an upgrade to Full Fibre 100 broadband at no extra cost and suggesting a provisional date for the work to be carried out. To respond, she needs to click on a "Yes" button, but we haven't done so as we're suspicious this is a scam. Can anybody confirm if this is genuine or not?

As the link describes, Sky is currently using both for their scheme.

Of course this doesn't mean scammers aren't latching on to the same campaign.

Thanks, but there doesn't seem to be any such thing as "an easy call to Sky". I tried numerous options on the website, and the AI so-called "service" which just sent me round in circles, without ever discovering a phone number I could call to discuss matters with a live person. That's why in the end I decided to resort to trying this forum!

Thanks, but the link you suggested I try simply proves my point. When I follow that link, lots of options are presented, but not one of them lists a phone number where I can talk to a live person.

When I scroll down past all the irrelevant options, there is one option that might be helpful, but even then it doesn't actually state the phone number. Instead it says, "Calls to Sky contact centres are inclusive for Sky Mobile and Sky Talk customers. If you're not with Sky Mobile or Sky Talk, calls to 03 numbers cost the same as calls to 01 or 02 numbers and are included in your calls package. If you don't have a calls package, charges may apply so check your provider's tariff guide". A fat lot of help that is.

What is the matter with Sky?! One would have thought that with the burgeoning increase in scams, Sky's management would have realized that there is a concomitantly increasing need for customers to be able to check quickly and easily whether something is a scam or not by talking to a member of Sky staff. But sadly, Sky seems either to have failed to grasp the need for this, or to be just plain unwilling to do so. [Removed]

Thank you! So at last the magic phone number is revealed! But why on earth has Sky buried it so deep in their system that it has taken me all this time and effort to obtain it?! As I said previously, with the burgeoning increase in scams, this number needs to be readily and easily available to customers, not made as inscrutable as the sphinx!

If you are still thinking about this, I can confirm that it is genuine. I had the same call and was also worried it was a scam but I risked it and went ahead, partly because I had seen openreach doing work in my neighbourhood for full fibre. It was genuine and I then got various emails from Sky and open reach and I finally had my full fibre fitted on Thursday. It was painless and I am assured that my costs for Bb won't go up or change in any way. I imagine it will when my contract comes to an end but that's not till Feb 27.

I also had these texts. Once via Whatsapp and a day later via text message. It was sent via different numbers. I am certain this is a scam as Sky normally communicates via email about these type of things. Upgrading for free also seems too good to be true. Is there anybody from Sky who could please clearify the situation?

Hi, all I can say is that I was like you but I went ahead and it was all above board and I've had my full fibre fitted by openreach and confirmation that my charges or contract won't change. The engineer also moved my landline over to full fibre. Everyone will eventually have to move over to full fibre and I think sky were a little disappointed that not that many have taken up the offer so they decided to send whatsapp and texts to try to persuade people to take it. You are right to be suspicious but on thus occasion I think you should be OK. I can only speak from My own experience.

I also recieved the Sky upgrade to full fibre at 'no extra cost' ... then 2 months later guess what.. a letter from Sky telling me that the subscription charges will be changing.. an extra £3.00pm for Sky full fibre...! they then go on to tell me I have made changes to my package.... a further £3.00 pm and I will receive Disney... (I don't want it and haven't asked for it), HBO max.. I haven't a clue what this is but I don't want it... and Hayu... is it a foreign language? I got rid of Virgin for similar reasons of prices just going up and up and now Sky seems to have the same idea... so I'm already getting a sense of these companies having a conspiracy in order to fleece unsuspecting new subscribers... I think its time to talk to my MP I'm absolutely fed up with this cavalier behaviour .

That would be the annual price increase applied every April: it would have gone onto your previous broadband if you hadn't moved to FTTP.

https://www.skygroup.sky/en-gb/article/an-update-on-our-prices

Those are streaming apps delivered on Sky television hardware, and unrelated to your broadband subscription. The bundled apps are 'free', but the annual price increase applies to television subscription too.

https://www.skygroup.sky/en-gb/article/sky-brings-together-netflix-disney-hbo-max-and-hayu-into-one-single-subscription-exclusively-on-sky

I'm afraid that in this instance there's not a case to argue. The annual price increase is written into the contract and nothing to do with you changing broadband technology, and the additional streaming apps aren't adding cost to the television subscription.
