long story short. im currently on sky max which is 80mb download and im using my asus dsl-ax82u all in one modem/router with no issues.

I am now upgrading to sky fibre gigamax however ive read i need to use the sky hub to retain voip (we have a landline unfortunately) whats the best way i can setup a third party router alongside the sky hub? ive read about issues with double NAT etc.

does anyone have a setup for me? ideally looking to connect my existing asus router or get any other asus router as my current one is overkill as the modem function cant be used.

@SpoilerN9 essentially if you want to use tghe digital Sky Talk voice line a Sky hub has to be directly connected to the incoming line. Sky use a proprietary solution for the voice line which should not be confused with third party VOIP systems. Sky hubs do not offer a bridge or "modem" mode so cannot pass the external IP,address to a second router so you will getva double NAT.

In practice Double NAT systems are nowhere near as bad as you may have read and for most people work with no changes beyond turning off the Sky hub's WiFi. The linked thread is pretty unusual and I would suggest initially sticking with the hub's default settings. If you need to do more complex actions like forwading firewall ports then use the Sky hub's DMZ function.

Yes you can but you may lose functionality you want to use as AP mode is limited.

I think certain features like QoS, Firewall, NAT functions etc are disabled in AP mode.

You can check the Asus documentation on it e.g. https://www.asus.com/uk/support/faq/1015007/

You could also put your router in AP mode and see which features disappear.
