i've just had almost the same issue. Openreach insisted installing fibre box behind TV + lots of other electrical items. I challenged this as I had read not to site hub near the tv (it wasn't before I 'upgraded' to fibre max). Openreach engineers patronising/lied/told me 'don't worry love leave this to us blokes we are the experts'. Now ive got 18 mbps as it comes into the house, and nothing in my home office - hotspotting to mobile to work, and 4 weeks in bouncing between Sky depts as Openreach 'don't take complaints'... help!

Hey anyone else had probs with the openreach engineers sky send out . Just signed so new customer they came to install the box showed him the room box was to go in the front of the house but he said easier for him to do back of house next to telephone pole and he would need to run a cable round the house for front room , I said yeah that's fine he continued to tell me it's fine in the back room cause sky give a free booster that will sort any issues I might get in that room , he said this several times when I asked for front room installation, So 2 weeks later and signal still dropping in front room and I work from that room and called sky yesterday told no free booster need to pay extra £4 per month and we are paying more that previously supplier already came to sky as says wall to wall signal . Just wondering if anyone else been told lies by openreach to save them doing extra work , thx

Fibre Engineers typically have to install the ONT as close as possible to the CSP where the line enters the property from above or below. The black fibre cable which is spliced to the CSP comes in pre-cut sizes so, which can be a limiting factor as to where the ONT can be installed. The cable isn't very tolerable to bends either, meaning the longer the cable run, the greater chance of a break resulting in light loss. Also, the job has to be completed in a set time specified by Openreach. So I don't think we can say with 100% certainty that there was any laziness. With regards to lying, that's a bit of a bold statement and the OR engineer may have incorrectly assumed that Sky would offer a free booster. They obviously only come free if you have the relevant package added on to your account.

Note that the location of an ONT doesn't affect the speed arriving over optical cable: the concern is over WiFi leaving the ISP router. If your Hub isn't receiving the correct speed over its cabled connection then that's a different issue.
