@Umbrokhan you are going to have issues connecting a Google WiFi Pro directly to a Sky full fibre service as those units do not support Sky's main authentication system of DHCPv4 Option61. You might have success with the alternate DHCPv6 PD system which 80% of lines can use but I cannot find a walk through online for how to configure your system..

A far simpler set up is to continue to use your Sky hub to manage the connection and simply connect the Google system to one of the LAN ports which will require no configuration changes on the Google system.however you will have a system with double Network Address Translation which can cuase issues with some apps. My preferred solution for my own third party wifi kit is to configure the units to act ac Access Points which removescthst complication as the Sky hub acts as the router. Turning off the Sky hub's wifi is sensible in either set up.

Network solution you have is fine for connection, if you are going to do Asus let me know and i will look see what get's stripped out when setting asus up in AP mode. Yes Asus allows ssid naming splitting etc, have my three band names all split and using a skyQ ID from way back in the day with a SR203 password well mixed and matched.

You can goto the Asus uk web site and download the user manual for the XT8's if you want to read up on them. Just pay attention to AP mode and what is removed from operation.

As you intend to Ethernet connect your AP's back to the sky hub (wired backhaul), expect full speed from the locations where you have them, 2 RP-AX58 set in AP mode would set you back £160'ish but there are many more that can/will work, just something if you wish to look at...

Think that the Tp-Link's allow guest mode access to be setup, Asus does have but pretty sure you need to be in router mode operation to do so.

Can be added to the SR as a double nat, had no issues with that apart from trying to print via the Asus, so had to drop to the SR to do.

2nd, If you have a landline you need to keep the SR especially as the phone is plugged into the back of the hub, no other way to do.

3rd, you lose all the sky help, so need to work out if there is any issue, easy is keep the SR handy and plug it back on to see if there is an issue.

Switching out the SR is the easiest as you will not have to worry about the switch wiring, Asus will go as main router, and 2nd as AI wired backhaul mode, with all the bells and whistles allowed, just a bit off a learning curve, expensive as they are, NO extra charges are required as all is included as you will glimpse on the screen picture if it is approved and you can view it.

@JimM1 Hi. At the moment my setup is:

Sky Router ->(ethernet)-> Google Puck (which is acting as a router) ->(ethernet)->swich ->separate Ethernet cables to google pucks in the lounge and kitchen.

When I'm on WiFi in the lounge I get a max of 250mbps according to fast.com, but I'm paying for a 500mps connection so trying to get up to the holy grail of 500 (or as close as possible to it) around the house.

I've had the Google WiFi for a number of years (well over 5 years). The setup works, but with the way tech moves on it's not as fast as it could be.

@Whitters23 what apps do you use thst will benefit from faster wifi? In practice apart from downloads there are very few activities that can use your 200Mb/s let alone need more. For example streaming UHD video never uses more than 35Mb/s playing online games averages around 10Mb/s. Higher bandwidth connections are about supporting multiple users at once rather than higher speeds for individual devices.

It is possible to get 500Mb/s in every room and higher but it gets expensive in many homes. Ask yourself do you switch cars when a maker offers one with higher top speed?

@Chrisee @Hi Chrisse.

Very wise and though provoking comments you have suggested.

As the Google WiFi pucks I have are are well over 5 years old (I believe they were the original ones Google started selling) they are definitely not WiFi 6 or 6e capable. My partner and I have have iPhone 14's which are WiFi 6 enabled from memory as an example.

We do the usual streaming etc from the internet. We also have a NAS on the network streaming movies, sound and file transfers.

I work from home all week and my partner works from home 3 days a week minimum. So during the day things get used quite a lot.

I know it's an expense to upgrade but I'll be doing it once in a blue moon (hence the many questions to make sure I try and get a good setup 🙂 ) so a few hundred pounds every 5 to 10 years is OK.
