New FTTP install engineer visits number

Hello

Taking a chance here and diced to switch from Virgin Media to Sky 500 on 29th April.

I have question about the fitting of the external CSP and internal ONT. I need a new line taken from the street pole to the property as Openreach recently completed the work on street.

Seen my neigbours have openreach van packed and a engineer climb up the pole and take a new wire to their wall..not sure what ISP they using though.

I am getting some feedback that with Sky complete this over 2 seperate days. 1 day for Openreach to fit the CSP outside and another visit by Sky to install a internal ONT....does this sound correct. My activation date is 29th April and not sure who will attend that day.

I need to be home when Openreach attend site as I need to direct them where to install the CSP outsite and the cable routing.

When I called Sky tech support they saying as its a new line..Openreach complete start to finish..

@Sayek most overhead full fibre installs are done in a single visit where the engineers run the overhead cable from the pole, attach to your house and run it down to the csp during the same visit as they fit the ONT and connect it to the CSP. Although customers have some choice where the CSP is placed that is largely dictated bybthe point the drop cable attachs to the property and then the cable is run down normally to near floor kevel. You can check what installation method is planned first your property by putting the full address into this checker Openreach Checker look for the line for WBC FTTP and go rightvto see FTTP install process.

If everything is done by Openreach then all good as i will be home to direct them. I was a bit confused about the 2 seperate day visits by 2 different engineer.

I wanted the new cable fitted same router as the previous Openreach copper cables, attached to the gutter pipe using cable ties.

I plan to remove Virgin Media cables and use the same hole for Openreach cables...no extra drilling needed. I dont plan to use Virgin Media Coaxial cables again so they wil be removed.

Lets pray my TP-Link router also works 😀

@Sayek it is not certain that a TP-Link router will connect to a Sky Full Fibre service as TP-Link do nit offer HDCPv4 Option61 support leaving only the alternate DHCPv6 PD method which requires support at the exchange which around 20% of cases they dont.

Oprnreach have their internal standards for attaching the new drop cables you will need to discuss that with the engineer but thst does not sound like a normal method but I am no expert. You can of course decline the offered sokution but at some point the copper network will be decommissioned.
