Do sky engineers connect the ONT to where Openreach have their terminations on the outside do they splice the fibre outside to a ONT they put inside ???

@Alan+X You may receive some other input with this question, but OR specialist fibre engineer's, some off there trained installer teams do install fully from external to internal and fusion splice for sure, IF Sky have had some engineers of there's trained in such then would say that it is possible, splicing kit is very expensive and has to be carefully used. Sky BB Engineers for sure everything from the ONT onwards should be zero issue's for them, they may also be able to hook up to an ONT and go backwards to SKY not had the need to do/see that yet.

That's the topology, yes, but the work might be carried out by Openreach, their subcontractors or one of the small percentage of Sky personnel qualified for fusion splicing..

Thanks for that but I didn't think sky could splice the fibre to the ONT, also know Sky has got to change the LnB to ONB and I don't think Openreach can do that !!!

As I mentioned, a small percentage of Sky Broadband personnel are now qualified by Openreach for fusion splicing and ONT installation in order to help progress the national FTTP rollout.

also know Sky has got to change the LnB to ONB and I don't think Openreach can do that !!!

LNBs (Low Noise Block downconverters) are for satellite television, not broadband. Satellite television installation is a separate process which Openreach has no part in.

Thanks for your input didn't realise SKY engineer can splice the fibre thought it had to be OR engineer also don't think OR engineers carry ONB's but I haven't dealt with the fibre side of OR only copper side !!!

An ONT (Optical Network Terminal) is completely different to an LNB: it's essentially the 'modem' for a fibre-optic connection and is the demarcation point between the Openreach data network and the remit of the ISP. An LNB is the signal reception element on the end of the arm on a satellite dish.

Thanks for your reply, very informative will look out on the 17th to see all completed on time OR has already done first fix of fibre to front of house with connection box and said SKY will do the rest just didn't think they would do the splicing.

MJ Quinn done our fit of cut and draw fitted splicing unit in place asked for and ONT, then had SKY come and fit new dish and ONB because he was not allowed to access the extension roof where the other dish is fitted then done the SKYQ configure as changed from old SKY+ box.

@Alan+X Sky Q from Sky HD+ requires the LNB to be changed for compatability reason's and is for the Sky Engineer to do, sometimes just easier for them to change out the whole dish array especially if it is old, the fitting off the new ONT and with respect to where you have your existing router just now, use the time wisely, there is NOTHING worse than having the router in the wrong location and suffering with the lack of wireless signal....👍

agreed it has been put upstairs front as unfortunatly this area sometimes suffers with vandalism, and for security fitted upstairs to stop people cutting cables or pulling them off the wall. I appreciate what you are saying versus where wifi is unable to pick up, but find security rather than where it is fitted and at present works well. The main reason for my concern is my son is now having fibre fitted and it is his instalation i have been asking about, thank you very much for all the replies it has been extremly usefulas i used to be a coach on OR copper but rtetired 16 years ago so didnt deal very much with fibre at all.
