Long story short ... I recently moved from BT Fibre (900) to Sky Fibre (900) service "went live" on the 12th so plugged in the new Sky WiFi Max Hub (white version).

I soon realised that the Max Hub was not going to be suitable for my requirements after being told to use the mySky App for basic features such as Port Forwarding etc.

Decided to look for a no frills replacement and very happy to say that I picked up the Asus RT-AX52 (AX1800) for less than £55 on Amazon.co.uk brand new ... the best thing is this just worked out of the box for me. 😀

If anyone is in the same boat and wants a more traditional hands on experience of configuring their home network, you cannot go wrong with this device router at a great price!

https://www.asus.com/uk/networking-iot-servers/wifi-routers/asus-wifi-routers/rt-ax52/

Thanks for sharing. Do you have SKY Q (I have Q and wonder if this works with the multiple Qmini's I have?) or Glass or only using the wifi? When you said it just "worked out of the box", it was as simple as plug and play?

Thanks for the recommendation, got one. I have sky Q and this has improved my WiFi reach and quality quite a lot. It even works with the multiple minis. So now i finally have WiFi 6. Great stuff and very easy to set up as it worked out of the box.

Otherwise there are few issues.

i get that. thankfully i dont use a phone line. and i would rather not ask for help unless the net itself is down, the phone lines are a pain.

the max hub also doesnt allow control, you need to use an app on a modern phone to do even basic things with it. even then to get to what i would consider basic settings, they expect you to be on a premium tier.
the hub also keeps crashing, it doesnt get on well with my smart devices and i cant run my own diagnostics to fix it or change settings, or seporate the 2.5ghz aND 5 ghz band.
its coverage isnt very good either

i resent that the hub doesnt allow basic control without a premium package, and it will only allow interphase with an account and propriatry application

Thanks for the recommendation. Was having micro outages on the sky hub even after line repair and a new hub. So picked up the RT-AX52. Worked straight out of the box as promised. I was a bit worried that it would require configuration. That heightened when I saw a list of providers for configuration but no Sky. Skipped manual configuration and all worked. Really like the asus app as well.

I didn't test whether anything else could be pinged.

You can opt to have the guest network have "access" to the local intranet.

All this does is to change the device's IP from 192.168.100.xxx to 192.168.50.xxx, so separate login but same network.

I'm not a network expert. The standard "guest network" appears to be isolated. Happy to be corrected.
