I had sky activated today, I did a latency test over ethernet and the pings are all over the place. Does it need to stabilise? Running the home test on sky app shows no problems.

Speeds seem fine too.

@Palm886 full fibre in general has lower latency than partial fibre but running ping tests can throw up odd results depending on the target you chose to test and how busy it is as returning ping responses is a low priority activity for most servers.

Sky and Openreach give no guarantees over latency but the connection should settle especially if you have Sky's white Sky Max hub which requires 24 hours to fully stabilise. I find running a regular test on a fixed server is a good way to monitor the line I use a server in Slough roughly 40 kms from my location offered by Ookla Speednet app.

As an indication this is my current result

Yes I am on the white sky wifi max router.

I didn't know it needed 24hrs to stabilise, what does it do behind the scenes?

The router dud come with only one cable and that is a power supply with USB c port, and a grey colour looking ethernet cable which I plugged into port 4 of sky router and other end into the white box on wall.

@Palm886 Sky never give details but they have told us that the hub operates a form of AI to optimise the various parameters which takes time to complete.

Full fibre is a very reliable fast technology and as I posted normally minimises latency the 8ms was measured on my iPad over wifi over Ethernet I would probably get 6ms.

I'm getting burts of latency over 30ms.i live an hour away from London.

If latency fluctuations are normal on first activation day then it should be fixed in few days? Because on sky fttp the pings keep fluctuating up too 30ms

When I was with sky fttc it had a stable 10 ms ping.

I should add. The ethernet cable that came with the sky wifi max router appears to be a basic grey ethernet cable. On sky's youtube set up video, it shows that the ethernet should be black with yellow end to plug into the sky router and openreach modem port.
